    Harrington Jackets - recommendations wanted

I'm looking for a lightweight Harrington Jacket for spring/summer. Any good brands out there I should consider? Thanks all.

I would recommend Community Clothing. They make for a lot of the high end manufacturers, but sell direct under this brand through their website (and Selfridges bizarrely). Hand made in Blackburn, I'd put them on a par with Private White for a quarter of the price. I have a Harrington from them, light weight, waterproof, good fit.

The original, and some would say the best, is the Baracuta G9

Baracuta for the original look and collar.

    Cheers,

Baracuta. I have a G4 which I have worn for years, I paid about £150 which has proved great value. They are about £300 and upwards these days depending on the material type.

    Harrington Jackets - recommendations wanted

Always gone for Baracuta, made in England rather than the range made in Turkey. Although having said that the stop at the bottom of my zipper is iffy.

    Community Clothing looks interesting.

£19.99 and Made in England! Seems a bargain. Are they okay?

Thanks guys, sounds like Baracuta G9 is the way to go then.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Classic and Original lines?

I got two. One navy for regular use and another red (or whatever it’s called) when I’m feeling adventurous.

I’ve been more than happy at the price. My brother told me about the site and he has (at least) one.

Maybe not the thing if you are in the habit of paying £00s for a jacket but absolutely works for me.

Last one I bought was from M&S a couple of years ago. Good quality jacket.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

If you like khaki green, Superdry do some very nice ones.

Merc do a very nice Harrington with good range of colours also jump the gun in Brighton. Ben Sherman ones are ok but have gingham lining which looks wrong. Avoid the cheap £20 crap the feel and finish on those are shocking also a lot of them the tartan lining doesn’t go all the way to the zip which ruins the Harrington look.

Baracuta g9 is the king but pricey

Heard good things about Jump the Gun ones but never owned one so can't comment, would be interested in trying one some time.

Baracuta G9/G10/G4 are really good, top notch, great fit and long lasting, I was wearing one today that I have probably owned for fifteen years, still going strong. However IIRC a few years ago they got taken over and the prices shot up. I haven't bought one since so can't comment on the quality but they still look pretty good when I have looked at them in shops.

If I was in the market for one today then I would probably go to John Simons, which is where I got my last one from about six years ago. They are made in China but when I bought it he assured me that they had been out to the factory and were happy with both the quality of the garment and the workers conditions there. FWIW it was John Simons who originally named them the Harrington Jacket back in the sixties, based on the name of a character of the same name who wore one in a soap opera called Peyton Place, so I think he knows his stuff.

My Aquascutum is about 16/17 years old and made in England.
I had one of the originals in 1970/71 when i was 13 or so. Looked great with monkey boots and a Ben Sherman and Skinners.

    That brought it all back!

Couldn't wear a Harrington nowadays, I'd end up looking like a superannuated member of Madness.

I've got a Navy Blue one from here. For the money can't moan at all. Wish it was a bit more fitted but that's my own gripe.
