Interesting comparison, but I wonder what grade their stainless is?

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

The early stainless such as 440 or 420 certainly didn't take as good an edge as carbon steel, but things have moved on. Knives don't have to be cheap to be used, I believe the vast majority of knives I have made are being used by their owners, they aren't made to be ornaments! I know one stalker who is using a £300+ knife of mine in the field and it doesn't get an easy life.

Oh my, and there was me thinking I had enough knives already!

That's brilliant work oaky, well done.

Thanks. The materials for it were eye wateringly expensive, in comparison to the usual fare.

I am not surprised. That Damascus steel is rather splendid, and the burl is “not bad” either.

If it's a case of disclosing trade secrets then please don't answer how it's done, but can I ask if the red liner is comprised of a single piece or two? The resolution on my laptop is not good enough to really see.

I just love the way the liner goes not just between the tang and the scales, but then also between the scales and the bolster.

    First class.

Wow, that’s beautiful, did you make it? Out of interest, have you made a Damascus friction folder?

It’s two pieces, the join can be seen on high res but in real life it’s quite hard to spot!

    Yes it was a commission.

I am making some folders, but they are just prototypes at the moment. Getting to a high enough standard is always the aim.

You’re right. And Desert Ironwood burl exhibition grade is getting quite expensive!

For £7 it’s sharp enough. Not concentrating while cutting a few things I took a proper nick out of my finger.

I’ll be more careful next time

That Damascus knife is a serious work of art. Absolutely stunning!
