    Car repair advice/recommendations (West Yorkshire)

    Trying to help my nephew!

The clutch and flywheel of his 2014 Golf (Mk 7) 1.6 TDI has/have gone.

How much is it going to cost him to fix and has anyone got any recommendation?

    Grateful for any pointers!

    Thanks

One of my friends had this happen on her Octavia 2.0 TDI just last week. It cost her just under £800 at a local independent garage (Warwickshire). That may give you a pointer re costs.

If it's dual mass then it'll be four figures easily.

I believe the Octavia TDI has a dual mass flywheel and, as stated in myearlier post, the bill was quite a bit less than the 4 figures you have suggested.

That may be down to having it fixed by an independent rather than a franchised dealer.

I had the duel mass and clutch on a 57plate Jetta changed in North Yorkshire by an indie 2 years ago and it cost just short of 900. So it’s not going to be a cheap fix.

Salendine Auto's in Huddersfield are trustworthy.

But yes, dual mass flywheel's aren't cheap. I know that there used to be conversion kits available for Ford & Jaguar where you could replace the dual mass with a normal unit (so cheaper) but no idea if that's something possible with VW's.

I would assume so you can with the Skoda with same engine but it can cause engine issues later on and is generally harsher so it's worth sticking with a dual mass imo .

Agreed - if it was me, I'd keep it as close to OEM as possible.
