    Denver in September

I am pretty early, I know...

My wife is off on a business trip to Denver in September. Despite all her trips to the US, this trip to Denver will be a ‘first’.

That brings the obvious question about the usual do’s / don’t bother / hotel recommendations.

As always, your ideas and suggestions are very welcome.

Denver the city is not that great, but Colorado is. Get out and about in a hire car. It’s ‘fall’ then and the colours in the Rockies will be stunning.

Rocky Mountain National Park is only 90 mins away. It relatively small and very popular, so midweek is best.

Not a great fan of the big names like Vail, Aspen and Breckenridge. I find them a bit soulless and full of condos. There are better places.

If you have time and want a mini-trip, Telluride (6 hours from Denver) is truly a lovely historic town and offers a free gondola service around the mountains. The drive via Gunnison is great.

We fly into Denver on the last week of August and will be touring Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. We will be spending time in Telluride and walking in the mountains.

Last big trip before my oldest heads off to university.

As above, Denver is not very interesting, Colorado is though, if you have time hire a car and go explore. It's a fairly huge State but you can cover big distances easily unlike the UK

Drive to Boulder. A city with some soul and the centre is small enough to see on foot.

Wrong time of year Memo she’s 3 months early for ski season ;-)

When we went we did a ice hockey game but only because we had Canadian pals with us and the Vancouver Canucks were playing. Don’t suspect Mrs Memo is a ice hockey fan.

As a Canadian by birth, she likes it. A lot! My FiL had season tickets for the Toronto Maple Leafs for years, starting way back in the mid-70s or so.

    Sounds great Menno.

I'm sure you will have a really good time. I'd like to visit there one day.
    Cheers,
