Thread: Show us your garden

  1. #101
Here's my main garden looking from one corner of my house. This garden sits to the side of the house because we have a corner plot.

Here it is looking from the other corner. The garage is a separate building.

Finally we have a second garden which sits to the rear of the house. This means we have two driveways, one on either side of the house.

I thought I'd try and resurrect this thread with some pics of my flowers around my patio. I grow the annuals by seed and the rest are all perennials. I plant with pollinators in mind and you will find this area is saturated with hummingbirds, dragonflies, honey bees, bumble bees and monarch butterflies quite the site to see while drinking a beer and smoking a cigar.

    ,

I will add one more I really like this poker plant

    Beautiful John.

Showed the Mrs and she loved it too.

Funnily enough we are just in the throes of moving our Red Hot Pokers from the front to the back as they are getting a big.

Thanks to both you and the mrs Neil my flowers came out good this year so I am very happy with it. I took the pictures for reference for next year although it will be different next year and I'll be able to see what I will be dealing with. I really like the pokers glad you have some they really add a lot of color to the garden and the bees like them too.

"... isn't bad eighter" Understatement, absolutely an understatement.

Thank you, the whole place is a credit to the previous owners who did an amazing job updating the house and employing two fantastic gardeners who hopefully we can afford to keep on.

That's good. A second look at the pics made me think: "How can you combine a job with maintaining a garden this size?" My garden is appr. 1000 m2/1200 sq.yrd and I need a gardener a few times/yr. for trimming the hedge (fagus sylvatica; nearly 90 mtrs long and and 9 ft high) and for cutting/pruning the shrubs and trees.

Anyway, enjoy your new grounds and I'm sure we all (here on the forum) won't mind seeing a bunch of pics of the garden during the different seasons!

This is 1.6 acres in total, including the house and driveway and a couple of barns. I've just ordered a new mower which will hopefully be with me in a few days.

More than happy to update sporadically with some seasonal photos.

  21. #121
A modest plot of not very good quality grass, which is probably why the mining bees seem to like it:

What surprises me most is that the bees are still quite active at this time of year.

You need one of these.....my farmer buddy tops and sides my hedges once a year. He gets a nice bottle of single malt and we're both happy......

Fantastic for the kids. When years go by, you slowly but surely will regain control over your garden. There is a moment with greasy mopeds and rusty spanners all around, but that will go away as well.

There's some lovely gardens on here and people clearly with far greater imagination than me.

We've got our local pub taking a load of apples this year but next we'll probably send them away to be juiced or turned to cider. The new mower has just arrived so hopefully I'll have a play tomorrow.

Now I've cleared a few more boxes I could take a better panoramic from our landing. We've dumped our pots on the patio but I will get them better arranged this weekend.

Loving that garden and the shed as well! Like the rustic look it has, but could look great with a coat of green paint as well. Is that a pile of logs in there, should keep you going a while if it is?

As said before (I think...). We will sell our current home asap after the kids have left the house for study etc. It’s simply too big for two people. And the garden will be too large as well.

When we buy a house with a smaller garden, this one will be my inspiration!!!

I’m really pleased that you like it so much, the empty area where I am stood easily accommodates a table and chairs for up to 8 in the summer, I made the pond slightly larger than it was since the previous photographs so that it goes under the decking

Thanks, I like the rustic look of the barn too, at some point I’ll have to have it re-shelled but a low priority as it’s purely for storing wood. I’ve a nicer barn for everything else.

Luckily the previous owners left us with a lot of wood as one our burners can disappear it at a rate of knots (excuse the decor, we’ve not got around to sorting this room yet.)

Lovely wood burner, we had a big one at the previous house, they do make for a great focal point.
I’d have to keep the shape of that shed though! ;-)

I’m a big fan of corrugated iron, nothing like the sound of rain beating down on a corrugated roof. Love the rust - wabi, I’d leave it.

    Show us your garden

Hedges done and slabs pressure washed and lawn given first cut. Bloody knackered -

Oh yeah and replacement washing line post dug and cemented in. I think I earned a beer tonight

Spent Saturday morning cutting the grass and then yesterday enjoying a tidy garden in the sun. We found the previous occupiers had planted thousands of Daffodils, which took some serious dead-heading. There's always something to do here, so haven't been bored in the slightest since lockdown.

The heron took the last remaining fish from the pond but good news is that we've got loads of tadpoles, so hopefully some frogs roaming around soon.

The fruit trees are all in blossom and have been pruned to a uniform height to make for easier picking in the autumn

These are some of the Daffodils from a few weeks ago, before the finally stopped flowering at the weekend. Now fulled dead-headed and got to wait 6 weeks before I can mow them.

Love that, bit of an oriental theme and reminds me of the famous(now closed) Blue Elephant restaurant in Fulham Broadway which had small bridges/walkways over water with exotic fish below you.

Thank you, no fish at the moment more of a wildlife pond with newts, frogs etc. I might put a couple of sticklebacks in as there are plenty of insects in there to sustain them.
