New arrival - Alexander Shorokhoff Sixty Three

Thought might be interesting to open a thread on this new arrival and I don't think I've ever seen a watch from this rather unusual Russian/German brand on here. Bit on info on the brand for those that have never come accross them -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Shorokhoff

Their focus is mostly Avantgarde with influences of Russian and European architecture and culture. There is alot that is way out there in terms of design, but I admire their unique direction. The SixtyThree is one of their more restrained and classic watches, while still retaining the design cues such as the large numbers of 60, 20 and 40(gold plated and hand applied), those quirky hands and rather beautifully hand engraved movement details(the rotor is gold plated and then engraved by hand).

The size is 40mm but it does wear larger due to being all dial, the Midnight Blue dial pretty much appears black unless in direct sunlight where it really comes to life(none of that here this weekend so made the best effort I can).

This was my birthday present from the wife, she insisted she was not willing to get me any more "old 70s watches!"... "something new!!!" Thankfully I've had my eye on this one for a long while.

Very nice solid box, the watch came with the blue aligatorgrain strap which is really nice but I prefer contrast over matching so switched that one immediately to the Hirsch I had awaiting a new host.

How is this for a nice touch, each individual watch is assembled by a single watchmaker and the adjustments are noted down for the owner. Helps give a nice understanding how positions affect timekeeping.

On the original blue strap, no doubt most people will prefer this look over the Hirsch but hey, each to their own and all that.

The sapphire is a high double dome boxed sapphire.

Something I wish we would see more of, two lug hole positions. The holes tight to the case together with curved spring bars allow you to get a really nice snug fit, thinner straps look better on the outer holes as not to leave exposed lugs protruding which I hate to see. Also there is an optional bracelet which would require this position.

I know this watch won't be for everyone, but hopefully a few people will be interested. Thanks for sticking with me.

Oh and lastly, this watch has now been with my 25 years! My longest surviving watch(I wish I kept my earlier casios) and fair to say it was the first to really spike my passion in watches. Loved this thing and has so many memories, glad I still have it.

2 birthday presents, 25 years apart.

That is a handsome watch. I don’t wear dress watches (I am never smart enough) but that has something different to the usual suspects. I have never heard the maker before but I will check out there other offerings. Thanks for sharing.
I think a plain deep deep dark blue leather strap would look fantastic on it.
    Enjoy

I met the guy at a watch expo in Czech Republic and of all the stands including some big makers, his watches stood out in terms of quality and finish. The avant garde kandi stood out for me but all of the watches have a refreshing style unique to his brand. Congratulations on a stunning and unusual watch. Buy what you love and don't listen to anyone else is often said here but not often adhered to. Well done and enjoy for years to come

I really do like some of these watches especially the alarm watch which has a reworked decorated Russian alarm movement in it. I have been looking at these for quite a while I assume you got it from poljot24de? He seems to be the main seller of these watches. Dont see too many of them with real life photos so many thanks for posting. Is this a reworked ETA movement?

Don't know much about the maker but that looks different and refined. I prefer it on the Hirsch strap.
Well done and enjoy it 👍

Thanks all. The movement is a reworked ETA 2892. The watch came from classic-time who are the UK distributors.

That is an absolute stunner, congrats. I've always been tempted by one of their 3133 based chronograpghs but can't quite bring myself to pay that much cash for a Soviet watch movement!
