    Secure Backpack help needed

    Afternoon All,

    Looking to your collective knowledge on backpacks. I travel in and out of London most Mondays and Fridays by train and tube. It occurred to me that given the value of the items in my back pack I should look for something a little more secure than my Berghaus day sack. The minimum requirements of the back pack are;

    Minimum 25L Capacity
    Dark in colour ideally black
    No large branding
    £200 max cost.

So what do you all recommend? Perhaps you have one for sale, let me know.

    Kind regards

    Glyn

Have a look at Goruck based in the US. Really well made and have a lifetime guarantee. They are a bit pricey but they have sales from time to time.

Might also be worth looking at Heinnie Haynes
https://www.heinnie.com as they might have something that suits.

I used to have a "Pacsafe" helmet bag for my motorbike and found it good quality. USA based but shipping to UK, might be worth a look

Reach out to my brother at http://bigxtop.com

He often does custom orders that are a lot different to what he offers on his website and very reasonably priced considering he makes it all down here,

I've always liked the 'rear' zipping backpacks for secure options, like pictured below:

Take a look at RiutBag. All the zips are on the back so when you’re wearing it they can’t be opened. I’ve had one for a while now and they’re great when commuting and walking around cities. Variety of sizes too. But of a microbrand and I quite like that about it.

Been keeping an eye out for a decent laptop backpack. The 15.3 reduced to £80 at the moment, so ordered one to take a gander. Looks good on the site.

I looked at these via Indegogo - didn't buy in the end but look well thought out...

You’ll love it I’m sure. I bought an earlier version which is all black, including the interior and the new ones have a yellow interior and a few other changes that I think just make a god bag better.

I use the smaller 10.3 back and it’s been brilliant. Do fancy the yellow interior though....

I use cheap screw gate carabiners to lock the zips on bags that have a suitable tab.

I use some of these for locking zip to zip https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/S-Biner-S...xIiEgaHSGj3w6A

Neither are truly secure of course but need some fiddling about with to be undone.

Edit to add that I tend to use sling and barrel bags if travelling by tube or bus. You can just put them to the front when standing or sitting on public transport.

Another vote for Pacsafe - their range is designed to be secure (slashproof material with wire mesh embedded, slashproof straps, zips that can be locked and need two hands to open, RFID internal compartments, etc).

Well it's arrived, very well made etc, lots of compartments seems good...but it doesn't fit my 15" laptop despite being designed for 13" to 15" laptops. Very disappointed.

Their website says laptop compartment is: 38cm x 26cm x 3cm, my laptop is exactly 38cm. 25cm width and depth easily less than 3cm. It's the length, it sticks out the top.

I needed an excuse to get a new laptop....

    This looks good but pricey:

Edit: Amazon reviews of it, all mention that the zips don't work very well.

none are really secure, a quick slash of a razor blade and your stuff is gone.

Those from Pacsafe have a slash resistant mesh under the fabric.

That's a real shame! It fits my 15" MacBook, but having just measured it that is less than the 38cm quoted and it only just fits. Are you going to send it back?

Peak Design backpacks are quite decent, (the Everyday is tamper resistant, while the Travel, while rather big at 35l can have locks on it)

Personally I love my Boundary Supply Prima System as its more comfortable and not that easy to get into to with its roll top

I have nothing but compromises for you I'm afraid. I do however have experience with these bags.

    Ortlieb City Daypack: https://www.ortlieb.com/uk/commuter-...om_store=uk_en
Great light bag. 21L is the compromise but is waterproof and the roller is more secure than a zip, IMO. Not the most comfortable though if your bag gets heavy.

    eBags Professional Slim: https://www.ebags.com/product/ebags/...uctid=10230513
    Good all-rounder

    GoRuck: any
Expensive, US distributors only. But a great compartment for a laptop that is only accessible from the back panel, so it has to be off to access. Also durable as hell. I'm using a 40L (I think? The larger one) GR2.
