Purchased bezel insert for my DRSD - genuine?

I recently inherited my grandfathers DRSD, and after a service with Steven Hale all is now running smoothly.

The watch however did not have a bezel or insert when I acquired it, so I have been using chrono24 to eye up the pieces as I would be scared to send anything to Rolex for fear of them refurbing the entire thing!

The bezel, and insert I ordered separately, at about £500 a piece. Today, I received the insert, and from a combination of reviews, and the '40' connected I'm a little suspicious, perhaps unnecessarily, but I'm not an expert!

Does this insert looks genuine? Any way to confirm?

    Thanks in advance!

Also bonus picture of my DR below, which to be honest to me looks amazing without a bezel..!

looks like a current 5513/1680/1665 service insert (and around £50 if you just dropped it by Rolex St. James to replace for you) :S

That suggests the OP paid £500 for the insert & another £500 for the actual bezel.

If it had been period correct for a DRSD then £500 would have been a bargain, unfortunately it isn’t so it’s not.

that's makes sense for the whole bezel assembly,

I once "lost" a bezel on one of my subs, sent it back to Rolex, and that was around the replacement price for the full assembly (bezel, insert & spring).

but it does read as £1000 total

Understood. So, genuine, yes, rip-off, yes..!

Correct to the others, I paid £500 a piece. I can pop over to St James tomorrow and see if I can get what I need from there, my aim was just to bring it back to it's former glory as best as possible, rather than sticking newer pieces on it as if that were the case, I think I'll wear it without..

The bezel should arrive tomorrow as well, so I'll update once I've taken a trip to Rolex.

    Thanks for the help guys.

So you can basically walk in RSJ and they will fit a new bezel insert for a good price or do you have to have it sent away for weeks?

Looks identical to a RSC supplied 5513 service insert i have, (came from a watch I had serviced by Rolex a few years ago)

Same font thickness, shape, and serifs

And mounted in bezel ring vs fat font

Ah, interesting. The '40' really threw me off as it seems an error, but if this is how some are coming out.. I would love to have found something from the era (mine is '72), however I guess it's quite a specific thing that I was looking for..

How did it come to have no bezel or insert?

Yes - however I doubt think they will fit parts you supply, they will supply and fit a new insert for you.

Just avoid lunch time as you may have a good wait.

And there's me thinking I'd have to send it off so that they can polish and destro... I mean refurb it!

If you buy a new insert they will fit it in about 10 mins no issue.

Rolex are also very good at respecting "do not polish/refurb" requests.
