I'm moving shortly and don't want sky etc but looking o occasionally record a program
I was thinking of getting a BT youview box for maybe ebay to cover this off- knowing absolutely nothing about these is this an ok way to go, will it work?
Funds are tight as the house purchase it taking most of my cash so am looking for something on a budget
    Thanks

Are you looking to get Freeview (terrestrial) or Freesat (satellite)?

    Have a look here:

    https://uk.humaxdigital.com/

They often have refurbs with guarantee.

I think they maybe make the BT boxes.

I moved home and ditched a horrendously expensive Virgin Fibre contract. I signed up to plusnet as my broadband provider and found that it was cheaper to subscribe to their TV and get a free youview box than buy one separately. I think I pay something like an extra £5 per month. Youview box is great too...I don’t miss Virgin one bit.

We have the you view box for £5.00 a month. I’m pretty sure you have to subscribe to be able to record but it is excellent. We get BT Sport free as well but that’s included in the broadband package

    Great thanks

Be aware that the Talktalk/BT boxes available on eBay generally have a smaller capacity and slower processors than the retail Humax boxes.

You get what you pay for etc etc

I have a Humax PVR and find it great. Mine is a FreeSat version.

The only negative is they have fallen out of bed with Channel 4, so the 4OD player is no longer available on the streaming side of things. The FireTV Box hasn't been used since the Humax arrived.

That's good news - apart from the fact that the Chinese government will know what you are watching!

If it's just recording you want then check your telly doesn't just take a USB HDD in the back. Our 5 year old Sony does, plug it in, format it (it's a special format) and then the on screen program guide acquires a record option. Bearing in mind Sony software is normally dreadful it works invisibly and well. Our telly has FreeSat and Freeview tuners and it works on both.
