Esso signs up to Nectar :(

    Get ready for
    Nectar Points at Esso
From 1 June we have a new fuel partner replacing BP.

Every time you fill up your car or shop at Esso you'll top up your points balance.

What's more, with around 1,000 Esso stations* across the UK, there's loads of opportunities to rack up points.

School runs, a visit to the in–laws, a trip to the tip or a ridiculously long drive to the seaside – now all journeys are smiles better with Nectar.

What a load of old tosh … Esso petrol prices will have to increase to cover the cost - but many drivers will assume they're getting something for nothing.
The Esso executive(s) who decided to sign up to the loyalty card scheme are very short sighted. It's the customers who pay for the cost of Nectar's overheads / administration / advertising … AND their own Nectar points.

If that were true, then presumably Esso petrol would have been cheaper than everybody else’s whilst they weren’t in the Nectar scheme?

And, we can look forward to BPs prices coming down as they exit the scheme?

Or, more likely, they’ll carry on charging exactly the same price as everybody else in the locality because that’s how it works.

Great! Another stupid loyalty card to squeeze into the wallet :(

I can't actually recall the last time I saw an Esso station?

Can’t see why it will make any difference to price as all they’re doing is changing from Tesco Clubcard to Nectar.

Nectar has got to be the worst value points scheme ever. It seems like you save up for ages, amassing 1000s of points only to find out it’s worth about £2.50. I actively avoid anywhere that deals with nectar...and if I ever do, I can’t even be bothered with the effort to find my nectar card in my wallet. It’s just not worth my time.

Couldn't agree more. The tills at Sainsbury's churn out lots of coupons with things like "40 Nectar points when you spend £5 at the fresh meat counter". From memory, that's worth 2 pence!

Shell have just (effectively) downgraded their loyalty system. You used to accrue points by £ spent - which seemed logical.

Now, you get points for each visit!

So, if I put £10 of fuel in my car at a time, I'd be laughing; but life's too short!

Company car and company credit card to pay for fuel, this is one of those few perks where I actually win.
