Thread: Anniversary Speedmasters unveiled tomorrow?

    Anniversary Speedmasters unveiled tomorrow?

Lots of chatter on the Omega forums that the new 50th anniversary stainless steel speedmaster will be unveiled tomorrow (8am Swiss time). Anyone else looking forward to seeing what it contains? Gold accents seem high up the list as does the new 3861 movement. I must say that Omega have done a great job in keeping the wraps on this. Some folk seem really annoyed by the whole process but I'm think it has added to the sense of occasion a bit. I've got my fingers crossed that one might be coming my way via the Omega AD in my local town. It would be a nice 50th birthday present indeed.

Gold accents like the BB58, and a white faced Seamaster will be the big hitters I reckon. Perhaps they'll unveil the Bond 25 watch?

The Speedy will either be fantastic or an absolute shocker.

Based on the latest offerings I'm going to go with blinged up shocker. If there is a white dialled Speedmaster then I'd be interested; but only because I want a Silver Snoopy and can't afford it

I really like the already announced Gold One, but not at £25k+!!
There’s been some cracking editions recently so also curious to see what’s unveiled.

My AD has popped me down for any new speedy. She has seen it being an omega dealer and all she could tell me was think like the new gold version but SS.
Said it’s around £7000-£8000 and they said November, but the last limited editions arrived late so I wouldn’t know for sure.

    Lets see what happens

So maybe a brushed steel dial like the newer Railmasters perhaps

Looks amazing to me. Some beautiful elements and a great tribute.

Here's the rubbish Hodinkee review (that site has gone downhill in recent years):

    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/om...on-introducing

and here's the much better Fratello one:

    https://www.fratellowatches.com/omeg...h-anniversary/

    And the link to the watch on the Omega site;

    https://www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/w...ersary/product

I can’t work out if I like it or not. One to see in the flesh. Again 6000+ hardly LE.

Maybe, but I'll bet with anyone here they will all be sold in a flash (if they're not all spoken for already).

I like the looks and the modernisation. Not so keen on the price. As for the LE numbers, everyone would be moaning if they put out 1969 of them that they are being picked up by scalpers and ending up in Watchfinder at £10K+. Yes there are lots being made but perhaps more of them will make their way to enthusiasts at RRP, perhaps.

At first glance i like the muted tones of the face but i'm not a fan of the spaceman, i find that gimmicky. Still no doubt it will fly off the shelves

Having read the fratello review I like it more. Yes it’s expensive but it’s a cut above in quality. I am more than likely and agree it will fly out given the recent hype with <2k releases of LE speedies.

I disagree with the Fratello review, what I wanted is precisely what they described as a lazy mistake, namely a 69 moonwatch with the new 321. The 50th anniversary is lovely but solely for the well off collector.

Also Omega's reference numbers have always been opaque but this one with 310.20.42.50.01.001is unreal.

Leaves me completely cold, but I’ve already had a whinge at Omega on the general novelties thread so I won’t stick the boot in here as well. I will be surprised if they sell 7000 of those quickly...

I like it a lot. The dial looks good to me, not too dark, and with the new movement and other finishing touches I think it’s going to be popular. If so, since Omega don’t withhold warranty cards, I reckon they’ll be flying into Watchfinder and other dealers.

Love the case back but front is not my cup of tea at all.

It'll sell out over rrp I'm sure but I'll keep my original.

I like it, and as i'm 50 this year, its very tempting, however price is a wee bit high for me...

Expect it'll be sold out in no time !

I like it, but would only consider as an addition to the normal moonwatch rather than a replacement.

6969 pieces, I don't think there'll be too much trouble getting hold of one.

They really are running out of ideas.

For me I like the watch itself but for some reason the bracelet doesn’t suit the watch, can’t put a finger on it but to me the bracelet just looks wrong?

I really think Omega are pushing their luck with Speedy pricing. I think anything over 5k is silly.

They said that about the last Bond 'Spectre' which was 7007 pieces and that went very very quickly

I feel that with the price point and the numbers available Omega have delivered a watch that will be readily available to watch enthusiasts at RRP. For sure a few early bird flippers will try their luck but personally do not think it will be difficult to pick up this piece from an AD and at RRP.

Omega have done a good job on this, with just the right amount of detailed touches to make it stand out and at a very accessible RRP. Will certainly be picking one of these up over the course of this year.

Because we live in the era of hype and trying to maximise returns. Omega know what they are doing with nearly 7000 watches at $10k each as a 'LE'. It will sell.

Personally think the ass of Buzz on the watch isn't quite appealing. YMMV.

Yeah love the case back and really like the front - apart from the laser etched picture. They should have kept it black IMO or maybe a moon phase complication.

Do not like the price. Anything over 6k is way over priced. 5-5.5 would be acceptable.

That's hardly "limited" being made in those numbers. Misses the point somewhat.

Is it the 50th anniversary of the moon landing or the 50th special edition Speedmaster LE reissue? It's getting silly. Why not just make a modern replica of the original watch, and charge a normal amount of money for one. Oh well.

Disappointed with that, for the big 50th I was expecting a belter. And £7k+ is daft for a speedy. £4.5k more than a standard Speedy??

And I agree, nearly 7000 of them makes it anything but limited. There were 3357 of the recent Speedmaster ‘57 Trilogy model made (Which is a belter!) and they didn’t all sell out at rrp immediately, and are now trading at about 10% below rrp. So I really think this one will struggle. Good luck to it though!
