Would you buy this Royal Oak

Hi TZ, apologies for an abrupt post but spotted this looking at watches in Japan just the other half reached the end of her patience and would love to know your thoughts on it. The sales assistant didn’t have much English and so hard to establish any information and the papers weren’t stamped. It’s £11k before import taxes, 37mm and I think looks amazing! But completely out of my depth and final night here.

No, and not just because I really don't like it. Has someone messed up the screws on the bezel or is it just the photo? If they have (and it looks like the bezel itself is damaged in line with one of the screw heads) then what does it look like inside?

No as I simply don't like the style.

No, bolt heads damaged, bezel damaged and difficult to impossible to refinish as then the bolt heads protrude.

Are you sure they're damaged? They're not even functional so the person doing it must've been clueless if so. The photos are just poor and the lighting rubbish which may make them look gnarled.

Regarding a 'Would I buy' - yes, but not on a whim in a country where I don't live (if issues arise) and from a dealer I know nothing about.

It's not the lighting or the photo quality, you can see the slip tool mark on the bezel next to the top left bolt. The swirls at 9 o'clock, the bottom right lug looks over polished and too shiny.

The bolts are functional, the bezel, case and back are sandwiched together. They can be easily damaged as the top bolts are white gold.

I can only comment based on your pics and I would have to say that looks as though it's been refinished by someone wearing oven gloves and a welders mask.

If that went in for service with AP they would have great fun charging the customer for what would amount to a new Rolex.

a brand new 15450 would be a better bet and cheaper once a service and import taxes are factored in

Got to agree with comments regarding the finishing, it looks in terrible nick, looks like someone other than AP has tried to finish it, the screws look damaged and they also look like some of them are raised above the bezel!! Could all be down to the poor photos though. In that condition that looks to me like a terribly high price for a 37mm RO and even if the condition is being misjudged due to the quality of the photos that still seems a high price. The 37mm is not the fancied RO so needs to be very good to near perfect condition and perfect for you.

    Lovely diagram!

I meant the heads themselves with the flat head screwdriver cut do not turn, so there's no reason for someone to have gnarled then up with s screwdriver unless they thought they did turn. The sleeves in the diagram are what are rotated to secure into those fixings, no?

I picked my 14790 up for just over £10k in November. Seems expensive to me.

Incidentally, this had just had £4000 service at AP UK.

OUCH! £4K service. There I was thinking Patek was expensive.

Wouldn't pay anywhere near 11k for that.

Thanks for all the comments, I’ll be leaving the country without it! Can’t believe I hadn’t seen the tool mark at 11 by the screw head, it’s so pronounced, even in my crap photos.

I’ve tried on many seemingly unobtainable models in the last few days and this was the last one and basically the only one that really amazed me but my partners patience was shot hence the very poor pictorial diarrhoea onto TZ (apologies, we should have a sticky on making cracking wrist shots from an iPhone).

Guess I’ve got myself a new grail!

What does a £4000 service get you? ☺️
