Yes, you should not be bothered by it but I also kind of get why it could irk you, if its brand spanking new then really it should be just that, the first impression of your new £5k+ watch is dirty marks on the box..

You should definitely NOT restore the box. Destroying the patina will devalue the watch since it won't any longer be original! You know, its part of the history and all that.
But if you must, send it to me and I'll remove the marks for only £500.
As much as I'm worlds apart from Ivano...I completely get what he is saying considering the outlay and experience. I likely wouldn't care. But I dont think it's for anyone else to say he shouldn't either... although...it is just a box. ;)

I'd request a replacement box. You've spent £5k on a brand new luxury Rolex, I'd expect all accompaniments to be in "as new" condition also.
Ignore the other snide replies, it's your money and your watch, do what you think is right.
When you get to my age you don't tend to be too fussy about the state of the box

The fact you’re concerned says that you will likely be paranoid as hell when wearing the actual watch. If it’s value you’re concerned about then don’t. Those tiny marks reduce it by £0.

Outrageous, send the watch back; keep the money and buy a nice cheap Citizen or similar. Then you won’t have to worry. I expect the box will be immaculate too.

I agree, however a quick wipe with a damp cloth before it’s presented isn’t too much to ask surely? Especially as it will probably be ages until it’s seen again.

The outer box is there to protect the inner box, it looks like it's done its job and will continue to do so.

If you collected in person, you should have asked them to get you a different one if it bothers you
If it still bothers you, you can go to the AD and ask for a replacement

People who fret over a couple of marks on an outer box should probably not be buying multi thousand pound watches IMO.
Actually wearing the watch would bring on an OCD nightmare.

Yes, Jesus wept and all that, it is crazy, but _if_ this turned out to be a fantastically rare model, _and_ OP never wore the watch, the condition of the outer box might have an influence on the value.
Also, it looks like you could get most of that dirt off with a rubber if you wanted.

Isn't there a shop in Burlington Arcade that just specialisers in Rolex outer boxes? I'm sure there are homage versions available as well. Not to mention fakes! Of course, there is always the grey market.

Obviously going against the grain here but if I bought something at that price point, brand new and considered a luxury , super high quality experience then yes, I would expect everything to be immaculate. Like it or not, the Box is a part of that package.

I only have one Rolex but it is a full set plus a few other items that came with the purchase.... including the jewellers bag the first owner walked out of the shop with back in 1997, yes yes yes, I know it sounds silly but it all adds to the provenance.
Sad thing is the full set on its own is worth more than many of my other mid range watches so it’s in the safe where it can’t get lost or damaged.
That ain't a full set. For my 214270, there's a white card sleeve that protects the cream outer box to exactly prevent those sort of scuffs you experienced. I would definitely take it back and get that box replaced.
Shocking treatment by your AD, it's worse than having the warranty card withheld.

I'd definitely complain.
You spend thousands on a product and they present it to you in a scruffy box, not on.
It does make a difference as it is part of the whole presentation and would make a difference to me on resale.
