I'll never forgive him for what he did to my hamster. RIP Mr Cuddlecheeks.

I never really found him funny. Didn’t he sell up in secret and do a runner to Spain to avoid a fine or divorce settlement or something?

A comedian who could only exist in pre-PC Britain.

His mental health and exile in Spain are well documented, a great shame for such a physical comedian.
He has been locked out by the nanny state broadcasters for the past 15 years.

    Hopefully he found peace.

Bordering on genius. No one could 'work' an audience better. He had a fantastic singing voice, too. One of those rare comedians that could be funny by not 'doing' anything (like Tommy Cooper). A really sad loss. RIP Freddie.

Have to agree with a lot of the comments here. Hugely funny and a shame to see him locked out of the industry. His Parkinson interview with Ali was something I'll never forget.

He was of a time - with Bernard Manning/jim davidson et al. He made a mistake of trying to live the rock star lifestyle (didnt he hang out with Parfitt from Quo?) but that lifestyle takes its toll. Never found him funny. But then I never found Manning/Davidson funny. I worked at Mannings club once - that was an eye opener!

    1 too many hamsters methinks.

I guess like many comedians, he polarised opinions. Personally, I never found him funny at all.

I thought it was the legal bill after losing his defamation case against the woman who accused him of sexual abuse when she was just 15.

Sad way for such a funny, manic entertainer to go. Real working class madcap humour has no place here anymore.
    RIP

Gt Yarmouth impresario Peter Jay's tribute to Freddie Starr https://www.greatyarmouthmercury.co....outh-1-6044215 … note he states Freddie Starr was a quiet man off-stage. I recall many years ago one afternoon I was sitting waiting for a haircut in Neil Duffield's hairdressers in Regent St in Gt Yarmouth when in walked Freddie Starr who was working the season in GY. He looked at me and stuttered, "H..h..h..ave you s…e….e..en Freddie?" He was looking for Freddie Parrot Face Davies who was also working the season in GY. He looked really lost and upset because he could not find Freddie Davies anywhere in the town … they were good pals … this was years before mobile phones were invented. Underneath his wild man stage persona he was a fairly timid and insecure man. He did not tolerate fools e.g. singer Carl Denver who once spat at Freddie when they were appearing on the same bill. Freddie got his own back just before the Carl Denver trio were due to go on stage … he de-tuned their guitars immediately after the instruments had been pre-tuned … so when they picked them up and went on stage they all played out of tune!

The most surprising thing about his death was the tribute by Russ Abbott. I had no idea he was still alive.

Saw him in Belfast - must have been 35 years ago. I can remember laughing so much it hurt.

Sorry to hear that he’s no longer with us.

Yet another of the great 1970s/1980s entertainers gone; a shame most folks under 45 don’t know who he was.

A one off hilarious nut job. Far more edgy and complete than any from subsequent generations. Good singer, good dancer, good talker and no boundaries.

Sheffield's Michael Fogg Family Funeral Directors firm has offered to arrange a UK funeral at no cost to Freddie Starr's family … thus avoiding a pauper's cremation in Spain. None of Freddie's '£££mega-rich' show biz friends in the UK appear to have made a similar gesture / offer. The media will make 'box office' of his funeral … especially the predatory "Oooooh errrr Missus", headline seeking / exaggerating, tabloid newspapers. There's a lot of negative comments about Freddie Starr from his family and the media but everyone has or had some good in them … and he was a crazy mixed up individual likely in need of specialist counselling which he never quite received. And all the medications he was taking over the years plus his 60 a day fag habit must have contributed to his behaviour and irrevocable poor health. Regardless of his alleged bad ways he was an immensely talented entertainer who brought a lot of smiles and happy nights out to many people … including his show-biz friends and former friends.

He'll likely have a swell funeral. I wonder what music and which songs will be played / sung … and who will be writing /reading the eulogies?

And no doubt there are those itching to make a documentary about his rise and fall.
