    Regrets? I've had a few ...

Hi all, I'm fairly new here, so apologies if this has been asked before. I guess many enthusiasts on a limited budget sell one watch to justify buying another. Even if money is no object, there is sometimes an impulse to switch watches out to feed the interest and experience something new.

I wonder is there is any one particular watch you regret selling ? Either because it has since shot up in value (always annoying !) or you really missed after it had gone

My regret is an IWC Mark XII which I bought around 1998 and sold about 10 years later, during the financial downturn. Looking back we did not really need the money, but it was more of a panic sale and I regret it ever since. Actually, one of the reasons I've joined the forum is to look out for another one, or something similar.

Anyway - would be interested to hear what regrets you have - if it's not too depressing a topic for the first day back after a bank holiday :-)

Simple answer but the only ones are the ones that have rocketed in value, but that’s purely for monetary reasons, so doesn’t really count. My only slight regret is selling my 116520 Daytona when I got my 116500 Daytona as I didn’t think I’d wear both.

X 2 5513's and X1 17610 all for just over 3k each.I wonder if in the "forum spirit" I could buy them back at same price.

A lovely Wellsboro chrono which I sold during my 'must have a date' phase. Now I can't red the dates on my watches.

As a rule of thumb the value of a particular watch will skyrocket around a week after I sell one. Grrrr.

I actually managed to make a loss on a Daytona (the last model) that I bought at RRP......

I keep buying and selling Omega X-33. I regret selling a lovely MK2 example. Maybe time for another?

Yep sold my 2008 Daytona a few years ago for £6800 and my Sea-Dweller 116600 for £5800 about the same time, didn't need the money was just flipping to try other watches thinking I could pick them up again for similar money at some point, how wrong was I.

I regret selling my IWC Ingenieur and AP Royal Oak. Both iconic Genta designs that I hope to add back into my collection one day.

This forum is and has always been full of WISs selling a watch, usually a Rolex, that they now regret.

The simple lesson is buy, hold on and never ever sell.

    No regrets yet!

Mainly because as an older millennial I hadn't been able to justify a nice (read: expensive) watch so far
Watches I've sold have been the odd Seiko 5 and a PRS-22 GMT (mechanism and crown thread were damaged due to bad servicing ).

    Regrets? I've had a few ...

Sinn 356 Copper Dial.. bought new for £350 and sold it for peanuts.. I still mourn the loss... miss that dial :(

Omega 2254.. bought and sold more times than I care to mention.. always miss it once it’s gone.. I’ve just sourced another one.. had to pay top dollar though...which is annoying.

I sold a 16750 matt (complete set) in 1998 which I purchased almost new in 1982. I paid £325 and sold it for £1800 - result I thought. The same watch now is pushing £10k. Fortunately for me I purchased another 16750 (matt) about a year later, (I really missed it) for the princely sum of £2000, but it remains a regret.

My only other real regret was not buying. A zenith Daytona for £3500 - because it had a white dial. Doh!!

Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Passing on a fair number of watches pre internet because I'd never heard of the maker(back then it it wasn't in a jewellers window, or ads in magazines I didn't know about them). One black dialled IWC comes to mind. A Glashutte chronograph from the 40's another. Both for fractions of what they'd cost today.

Of the ones I've sold on, my biggest regret was in the early 2000's selling a Longines Czech pilots watch from the 1930's. Early example with enamel dial and earlier movement. Now I made what I thought was a few quid from it(as it cost me a few hundred), but I was sorry almost the second I handed it over.

having still got the higher end watches I have purchased so far , I can say I have no regrets, YET! :-) reading theses replies looks like I will be keeping what I have(not that any I have , have shot up in value )so I don't get the sellers remorse .
