Shark fishing on a Lancashire beach

Wearing the trusty SMPc of course, time to chill and have a few beers now and think where to fish tomorrow :)

Nice hound that, bet he took off when you hooked him..
Just got some gear ready tonight for some shore Conger, mackerel and squid bait so might pick up some Rays or even a surprise Bass..
    Tight lines ;-)

Yes it put up a fair scrap, I had three hounds in total, 2 starry and a common, also a small bass and a small Codling, and a dogfish last cast.

Good luck with the Conger, I tried for a ray tonight to no avail.

I have been hand lining bass here in Sussex (commercial) but we have a lot of "may rot" in the water at the moment.

Yes Ben we get tope, but mainly out in the boats, but having said that, folk don't really target them from the shore.

    Hello

Awesome, yes you do tend to get them more from boat.

A friend had a huge run in the Bristol Channel from one. Sadly he lost it!

Can’t beat being by / on the sea.....

Does it not do them harm though? With all that blood, and pulling on the line it could really tear up their mouth parts?

    PS am pretty impressed though!

    PPS WTF sharks in Lancashire???

Smoothound have very tough skin around their mouths Adrian so next to no damage, to be fair it doesn't make the the best picture when you have blood like that, some bleed from the catch and some don't.

I caught a smaller Smoothound straight after this one and I don't think it bled, will see If I kept the pic, I caught a Bass yesterday and they have quite bony mouths and I did notice some damage but I bet they heal pretty quick, think I have the Bass pic too.

    Really good photo though!

If I had a photo of me holding a shark I'd caught myself, it would be my profile photo on everything for life!

In fact, I think I'd even get it printed onto a t-shirt and would wear it every day!
