I assume you've tried putting it out in direct sunlight? Takes a while though, can be a few days.
Hi all,
Yes I’ve been an idiot. I’ve left my Citizen in its box for months and now it won’t run.
( yes I know it says charge up every six months but months don’t seem to be as long as they were and suddenly it’s a year later )
Is it dead?
Can it be revived?

Windowsill for a few days usually sorts them, it can take a long time if totally dead

Thanks guys I tried 24 hours but perhaps I’ll leave it a bit longer.

I had one that took two full days on the windowsill before it started ticking again. Hopefully it will be fine.
Pull the crown out while it's on the windowsill charging up - usually does the job (no idea why that works).
If not drop me a line, I'm ordering some capacitors for a couple of Citizens next week, I'll sort yours out for the price of postage.
Also, if you can leave it outside the window in direct sunshine that will ameliorate the effect of light absorption by the window itself.
Thanks all. I’ve left it on the window sill and gone out for the day. Will report back later

I had to tape mine to the top of the gazebo thingy in the garden for two days. That sorted it in a way that a week left by a window didn't.
Nothing yet. I’ll give it another 24hours

Use a lamp (I used to) just don't put it too close so it doesn't get hot. Eco-drives charge with indoor lighting as well.
One of mine has discharged and been left for months, and when left in the window for a few days the first time it happened, no joy.
After pulling out the crown and pushing back in, the watch started up fine, so I do this every time now and it keeps on plugging.
I'm a bit intrigued by that -are you sure? I know that there are windows that have clever tech in eg Pilkington K that reflects heat, but surely Eco-drives just need light to charge? If windows didn't let light through, your room would be dark! Or do windows filter out more light than would appear to the casual observer? Or do Eco-drives charge better with the full spectrum including Ultra-violet etc??
As about get is outside- the window cil is good for maintenance but to get it going get in the direct sunlight
Still dead

New capacitor it is then. Shame.
Light isn't just "light". There are many types. Modern windows block out a lot of the UV spectrum, which is the most "potent" for charging an eco-drive.
When I said to leave it outside in direct sunlight, that wasn't just a guess. I used to work at Citizen in Wokingham - this is what the watch repair guys told me when I brought in a dead Eco-Drive to them for a new capacitor.
It's a bit like a Seiko Kinetic - if it gets low enough, the only thing that will charge it is a vigorous shake for a few minutes. Once it's up to normal levels you can leave it on a winder to keep charge or use a toothbrush charger.
A lot of Citizen Eco Drives need an 'All reset' procedure to restart them.
Look up the manual for your model and then perform the procedure, it can vary and can be as simple as pulling out the crown and immediately pushing it back in. You need to check for your particular watch though.

No idea what it is..., this is it...

Um, isn't that a 2502? A standard quartz, alkaline battery, model, not kinetic?
If so, then you need a new battery not a capacitor.
Yup. Not eco-drive. New battery required.
Oops!

I know nothing about them. It’s has ‘Eco-drive’ instructions!
I’m glad it’s a regular cell to be honest.
Oh well it’s been interesting finding out about the Eco Drive though...

That would have sat on the window cil forever
Could have been worse... I might have sent it off for a new capacitor
