    Smiths PRS-29A Accuracy

Hi all, I’ve been wearing a PRS-29a (from new) for the last month. It’s running 9 seconds fast (over 24 hours). Just wondering what’s sort of accuracy other owners have been getting and if there are any tips on improving this (if possible). I had heard that these movements are more than capable of reaching COSC standard. Many thanks.

I have one of the early 29As, and I find that it gains a few seconds a day if wound every 24 hrs. More than acceptable of course, but if I leave it until the last few hours of its 40 hour power reserve it will start to lose time, so in practice I can keep it very accurate indefinitely by carefully managing the frequency at which I wind it. Which is very easy to do; I wait until it's 5-10 seconds slow, then wind it fully again.

I had a CW with the same movement.

If I wound it fully each morning and kept it dial up overnight, it would gain 10s/d.

By winding it each morning, but not fully, and by keeping it crown up overnight, it would gain just 2 s/d.

My 29AM has settled down to a +4 s a day average, if worn on the right wrist, on a Bonklip... or +7 on the left wrist, or on a nylon W10 on either wrist... pretty bloody good, but.....
My 7 year old Speedbird has been averaging +0.5 secs a day over the last two weeks since i tweeked it, following a drop to a tiled floor whilst moving a fridge... beat error of 0.1ms and a 300 degree amplitude swing.... fricking phenomenal.
My 29A (2015)is about 12 secs a day fast. It needs a bit more tweaking. I have no doubts it can be put to within COSC. It has a gilt finished movement and a different adjuster to the speedbird or the standard eta nickel silver movement wih eccentric screw fine adjuster shown on the website pictures for the 29. Its a straight lever, like in the old days.. Its a damn pretty movement.

I have had my 29A for about 2 months now and it runs 10-12 seconds slow per day in all positions except face down where it seems to run 5-7 seconds fast.

The movement is an ETA so it should be able to be regulated to further improve the timekeeping. There are folks on the forum who can do this.

Haven't checked accuracy to the second but it seems to stay pretty close to a CWC G10 I use for work, which has recently been fitted with a new 955.112 quartz movement. However runtime seems to be a little inconsistent between winds, following a strange episode of it stopping while being nearly fully wound.

I'm glad that I'm not concerned about seconds out for timekeeping per day. I'd happily accept 10 seconds per day and not even notice. Mind you that may be because I probably don't wear the same watch for more than 2 days straight!!!

Now, who's going to sell me a 29a!!!🤔
