What watch would Alan Partridge wear?

I've been watching the most recent series of Alan Partridge, absolutely hilarious. I sometimes think there's something a bit Partridge-esque about having a posh watch. I can only guess that Steve Coogan himself is a bit of a watch guy because if he put that in the script I think it could put a lot of people off and have real detriment to the current values of certain watches!

I can just imagine him telling a young intern that his Rolex Submariner was 'the watch that James Bond actually wore in the novels, not an Omega as depicted in the recent films as that's just a sponsorship deal'.

A man who drives the 'Japanese Mercedes' wouldn't have a Rolex, he'd have something more accurate and needlessly function heavy that is quite pricey but not 'expensive'. I submit a Citizen Promaster. I could imagine him explaining to someone that it includes more than 24 time zones because of half answer quarter time zones whilst also trying to time everything on the Chronograph

    Grand Seiko surely?

He might well be partial to a good watch, because he wears a Blancpain Bathyscaphe in (the excellent series) The Trip (the one where they go to Italy). It's even briefly mentioned, I believe.

He'd have managed to wangle a complimentary Citizen for presiding over the re-opening of the local H Samuel.

    Great question !
It’s got to be a TT, possibly a Datejust (as above) but maybe a Tag Heuer 2000 (38mm).

Another vote for Bremont, especially if they’ve an SAS model.

So he can tell everyone it’s a Rolex (that he can’t afford)

    Which it isn’t.

    Really, it’s not.

He’d wear a multi-coloured Swatch given to him by a member of Bros at a charity fundraiser circa 1986.

But it wasn’t given to him by either of the Goss brothers, but Ken Logan the bassist that everyone’s forgotten.

I’d put the character wearing a Citizen too, I can almost here him saying “Ecodrive” with a wiggle of the head as he tries to belittle a Rolex wearer.

Spot on. Lines like "I was sucked into that world once then bang '£500 to oil it, sir.' I won't be mugged again. One word for you [Flashes wrist] Eco-drive. Accurate and good for the environment. And I had enough change for an hd-dvd player."

I’d imagine that he used to have the Tag Heuer Link below, from his sports reporting days - he just really liked the bracelet. It’s a very clever design.

However more recently since appearing on TV again he could have been approached by TW Steel to be a brand ambassador. So when showing people the watch he could explain that it’s fairly expensive but he didn’t even have to pay for it. And what’s more, their previous brand ambassador was David Coulthard, who actually won 13 times in F1, more than you’d think. And this was in the Schumacher era too so that’s actually really good.

Craig Logan. He's a mate. Made a lot of money in music management (he was head of RCA records for a few years) and property so I wouldn't feel too sorry for him.
