    New Mexico

We’re off for a short trip Stateside (9 days) in late August, flying to Denver.

Having done all the major sights of Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Wyoming on previous trips from Denver, we thought we’d give New Mexico a whirl, as it is a state that we’ve not been to.

We only have flights booked so far, so we are flexible in our travels, and looking to understand if anyone’s been to New Mexico, whether you found it enjoyable and some of your recommendations.

We love the great outdoors, beautiful scenery, good walks and the odd pleasant town or two to chill out for a couple of days by the pool. Travelling as a family with two teenagers.

    Thanks in advance.

I was there last year, toured all around NM and CO, the one thing I'd really recommend is going to the Meow Wolf art installation in Santa Fe,(Santa Fe is nice too) it will blow your mind, have a look at some You Tube videos.

    Other things I enjoyed were:

    Breaking Bad Tour in Albuquerque

    The Very Large Array -

White Sands national Monument - Go at Sunset if you can

San Luis Valley & Great Sand Dunes - - Sorry this is Colorado but if you haven't seen it before it's worth a visit.

Los Polanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm - Tom Hanks goes there it's that nice, the food in the restaurant is amazing. Rooms are superb. I'd recommend staying there a night or two.

The scenery on the drive down to Las Cruces is pretty dramatic as well.

The southwest is going to be blistering in August.

Taos is an interesting place. Considered an art centre, its very touristy. A lot of adobe architecture. There's the Taos Pueblo, and ancient native settlement nearby.

Its also in the north, high desert and will be a bit cooler in August. It could be a good place to stop and relax.

(Disclaimer: I've never been. Had a sister in law who lived there though.),_New_Mexico
