    Seiko Scuba Pro 450

Hi all, a while back I posted about buying a Marinemaster homage as I cant justify spending the amount needed to buy the original. Having thought it over I've gone off the idea of the homage so have been looking at cheaper Seiko diver alternatives. One model I've discovered is the Scuba Pro 450, just wondering if anybody has owned one of these older Seikos and what they thought of it. Also if there's any other cheaper alternatives to the MM 300 but still a Seiko please let me know👍

A scuba pro 450 is a 6306 diver with a branded dial so an authentic one will be hard to find and probably pricey, to give you an example a very nice normal dial 6306 was advertised on here for £750 I think recently. Good write up from a member here on the scuba pros https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/thewa...bapro-450/amp/

Tons of aftermarket scuba pros dials fitted to the more common 6309 on eBay buy then you’re back to the problem of not being a proper seiko really!

Other alternatives from seiko..? There’s loads maybe the reissue 6309 is a place to start?

    Original's fetch very strong money.

I went the aftermarket dial route when I had one - TigerUK on here is you man for the work. I picked up a dial from eBay and it was decent quality.

As said above, a decent original 450 will cost around the same as a MM300 these days.
    Cheers..

If you look over on my recent thread on MarineMasters, there are a few alternatives worth checking. I do agree with the idea of choosing another Seiko diver as an alternative. Here are the alternatives -

It’ll be more than a MM300 (by some margin) now.

Have had a few but sold off all except one now,

    Ebay sale end of 2018,

Another one sold on Instagram for $3600 early this year, within hours of being advertised.

Blimey! Doesn’t seem that long ago they were £500. It probably was though.

That is a while ago I guess.
These days the 6105-8110 reissue (SLA033) will list at $4250. Collectable Seikos are going north in value quickly.

I find that a odd pricing strategy, I would have thought that with the historic reissues they are trying to tap into the customer base that know what the originals were / are rather than people who don’t know. But why would informed buyers pay twice the price for a new version than the original that inspired it. As you say, the vintage prices are catching up though. Personally, I would rather the vintage original over a reissue at those prices.
    Cheers..

Wow, thanks for all the replies👍

Had no idea that they went for that much, unless I go down the route of a different model with the Suba Pro dial I think I'd better look elsewhere😳

Will keep looking, it's all part of this watch collecting malarkey fun!

Why do you particularly want the Scuba Pro dial?

    What about a decent 6309?

Not sure really, was just drawn to the dial for some reason.

There are some really nice affordable Seiko divers. Have a look at all the different Turtle models - the padi, the save the ocean - there’s lots of choice.

The BFK is certainly worth considering.
Excellent quality with a superb bracelet and a very affordable price.

The -077 (and its variants) is a great shout. Very comfortable, lots of classic Seiko design cues, diashield, a brilliant bracelet... Plus Watcho often have discount codes (I used “SEIKO15” when I bought mine, 15% off).

I nearly bought a BFK a while back, it's just the hands that put me off☹
