Soon a 10 year love story with the GMTIIc

It’s soon 10 years that I’ve had the GMTIIc.

She hasn’t aged a bit nor have I serviced her (oups) and very likely that she has become wiser than me by now!

    Enjoy the picture:

Nice watch but it is an inanimate object without gender.

Smart. I still think 'eh?' when I remember Rolex have killed that model and only offer the colourful versions now.

I'm sorry, did you just assume its gender?

Is it not current trendy thinking to allow the watch to choose it's own gender?

You might be right. Not doing so might be gender discrimination:-)

In any case, what I most wanted to bring out was that it still looks new and modern after 10 years.

Joking aside, it does. Though I love the right kind of patina, there is also something to be said for modern day watches, which retails n their looks and freshness.
It is a lovely watch. Enjoy it for years. But don't get frisky with her:-)

Nice watch. People are going nuts for these especially now that they’re discontinued.

  12. #12
I've had mine a similar time (purchased from Blowers still in stickers for £3400 when I think rrp was £3600) ..... I have had it serviced by Rolex and it came back looking like new.

As the first of the ceramic sports range it was the one that sparked my interest in Rolex. I also think it odd that they have discontinued it. For me this model should be on an Oyster. Mine never was going anywhere ...

Yeah, it’s bi-colour and jubilee from now on - I doubt we’ll ever see the likes of this one again.

Soon a 10 year love story with the GMTIIc

Maybe it’s looking too similar to a sub (apart from the bezel and green GMT hand, pcls on bracelet) so they are trying to clean up the range.

I wouldn’t be so sure... I should think they’ll bring it back within a few years with the new movement.

I kept toying with the idea of selling mine. Bought off here as part of a trade years ago at well under £4k. It had been over polished so lost the sharpness off its edges which always made me want to get rid of it but its such a good looking watch and I use the GMT function whenever I go abroad.

Now its been discontinued I have a reason to keep it as I couldn't afford to buy another since the prices have gone stupid.

I think they are around £8k retail? Remember buying mine for £3800 at the airport I think. Bonkers.

They’ve definitely gone ballistic since Baselworld. WF had three on their website last Thursday; they had all been sold by Friday.

All hail the power of discontinuation! 😊

Watchfinder prices close to £10k for a fairly new one! Makes me very happy to have got mine at RRP for my wedding!

I assume you’re referring to the 116710 LN on sale for £9,945 that appeared yesterday morning and is now sold? Insane! 😮

How do you guys know that this GMTIIc (Black bezel) has been discontinued? Is there an official release from Rolex?

I still regret not picking one up for £4.3k in LHR T3 a few years ago.

I'm one of the apparently small minority who actually prefers these to the pepsis and BLNRs. I have a SD43 and can't afford anything else but if I could have a GMT it would be this. (I think the OP's looks terrific on that olive[?] nato.)

  30. #30
Outside watch forums, I think the majority prefer these to the multicoloured bezels and the jubilee. I certainly have a strong want for a GMT2 and a dislike of Jubilee and multi coloured bezel.

I don’t really see why it matters if it is quite similar looking to a Sub Date. The GMT function is enough difference. What about buyers who want the black bezel, Oyster bracelet and the GMT function?

Managed to purchase one as a random walk in last week. Question is why didn’t someone on the “list” get a call?

Snap!! Had my GMT for exactly 10 years. Bought if for my 30th bday, still not serviced and keeping impeccable time. Was my only watch for a year or two but now worn in rotation. Will take into St James this year I expect as quite a few scratches on bracelet and lugs but crystal and bezel are spotless. It’s my go to holiday watch for obvious reasons and is currently skiing with me in France

Forgot to say, think I paid £4.050 which I believe was list price at the time from Ernest Jones before they lost AD status. Walked in to enquire and was told there was a list, hard to get, only recently released, first ceramic bezel, imminent price increase, blah, blah, blah. Left details and said I was ready to buy and 2 days later got a call to say they had one as buyer had pulled out, no discount but got 0% finance over 2 years.

I finally succumbed and pick a 2016 model up from Watchfinder tomorrow, waving bye bye to my Tudor BBBBB and Autavia 02 at the same time. It’s been a good week so far!

    They look great.

I am kicking myself for turning down two opportunities to buy an LN last year from a friendly AD. I'm on their list for the BLNR and was holding out but hate the jubilee on the new one and have lost interest. Whilst I understand the history and idea of a bicolour bezel I think the all black looks very classy and far more sophisticated next to the blingy jubilee equipped BLRN and BLRO. Lucky you guys with the apparent bump in residuals too.

I’ve had mine since summer 2007. Purchased new from an AD here in the USA for just $5000 (plus sales tax). I don’t think I’ll ever sell it.

    Hope you're well. D

Coming back to the OP. I was gutted when I found out at Basel that the Black was no more. It has always been my favourite of the Ceramics and probably because it "zinged" being the first made that way.

I suppose it may reappear next year on Jubilee with the upgraded movement but I, like everyone else, am crap at second-guessing Rolex.

Great watch, can't believe they discontinued it but no doubt it will surface next year again. Very versatile, especially on a brushed bracelet.

What’s all this it’ll reappear next year crap?’ No it won’t. Rolex has better things to do.
