Well done, like Timothy Dalton I think George was very underated, way better than Brosnan or Moore.
On a well known social site (facestalk), George Lazenby has recently set up a profile in time for the 50th anniversary of OHMSS. This profile was mentioned as being really George Lazenby by the guys at James Bond Radio. As OHMSS is my favourite bond film I thought I would as George a question.
Q. Dear George. I first want to say thank you for setting up this Facebook page for your fans. I have a question to ask. Do you still own the Rolex 5513 Submariner you bought and I think wore in OHMSS? I have one which is dated from 1969 which I call the Lazenby!
Kindest regards
Simon
I sent this a week or so ago and have just received this reply
Simon, no longer with me. Last time I heard about it is was offered at some auction. Nowadays I wear an Omega the Bond producers sent me a few years ago. Best George
Not sure if he is confusing the watch with the Rolex Chronograph that was used in the Piz Gloria scenes but I was chuffed to get a response from one of my fav Bonds.
Well done, like Timothy Dalton I think George was very underated, way better than Brosnan or Moore.

Name your 'second',
"Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it's enemy action."
'Populism, the last refuge of a Tory scoundrel'.
The best way to figure out your fav bond actor is to get the box set and if you wanted to escape for 2 hrs what film would you put on? Or if your were to introduce Bond to say an 8 year old what film would you choose? My fave bond film is OHMSS but if I had to introduce a bond film and or introduce a novice to the films I would probably choose The Spy Who Loved Me.
I thought there was only one Bond - good old Sean.
Cool that George responded.
I remember Watchguru in London had the Rolex Sub from Live and Let Die with the saw teeth in the Bezel. That went through auction a few times. Interestingly, I don't think it had a movement in it - just a movie prop.
Nice to get a reply.
I'd agree that OHMSS is underrated and has stood the test of time better than the Brosnan films (for me at least)
I do meet people from time to time who haven't seen any pre-Craig Bond films, I generally lend them Goldfinger or From Russia With Love (if they've been to Istanbul) and Live and Let Die or For Your Eyes Only (if they've been to Corfu) to get them started.
Best Bond for me is T. Dalton
First Bond I showed my daughter is Dr.No because this is where all the key identifiers were set, that still live today. The only thing that was missing (mostly) is Q and his inventions.
Best song is probably Goldfinger.
As to best Bond car, the DB5 is the most famous and by far the most expensive, but I would nominate the Lotus from TSWLM.

Great you got a reply - and I agree On Her Majesty's Secret Service is terribly underrated.
For me the Best Bond is actually Daniel Craig, who just skims it from Sean Connery.
Best car - well I'm a Lotus fan so the Esprit its is followed by the DB5.
Best Film - yeah, I'd also go for the Spy Who Loved Me
Mr Wint and Mr Kidd
Just in case you haven’t seen it in a long time.

That is great that George Lazenby responded. He truly is a bond fan even though he played him. The fact he bought his own suit and Rolex to audition is brilliant.

Slightly off topic, Roger had his own 1680 red Sub.
"A man of little significance"
Favourite Bond, Sean Connery with Daniel Craig in second
Favourite Bond girl, Any
Favourite Car, any of the Aston Martins or the Lotus
Favourite watch, a Sub
Great that George replied, pity he doesn't have the Sub
Favourite car for me would be the Espirit

Favourite film. OHMSS, followed closely by Thunderball
Favourite Bond. George Lazenby, Shame he screwed it up for himself.
Favourite Car, Lotus Espirit
Bond Girl. Domino-Thunderball. Hubba Hubba followed by Jane Seymour
Theme Music. Live and Let Die, followed by Diamonds are Forever
Used to think it was Sean but I’m going to have to say Dalton for the best. Which is funny because when I was a kid I’d be annoyed when he was in a film and they didn’t have the real bond (Moore..).
Though The Spy Who Loved Me for best film and girl.

OHMSS is my favourite Bond movie too. I've always thought that if Connery had been in it, everyone would agree it's the best. In saying that, other than the awful moment at the start where he breaks the fourth wall (not his fault, I suppose) I think Lazenby was a pretty good Bond, perhaps second only to Connery, and I think its a real shame he didn't make a few more and give himself the chance to grow into the role.
Not surprisingly then, favourite Bond girl is Tracy Vincenz (Diana Rigg). I think as a character she's one of the most fully developed in any of the Bond movies which puts her ahead of the rest, perhaps with the exception of Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale who's a close second.
Car, as much as I love the DB5 and the modern Astons, there's something particularly beautiful about the 1968 Aston Martin DBS Vantage in OHMSS, so that's the winner for me.
Watch. I love Omegas, but for me, the Rolex Sub will always be Bond's watch, so another vote for the Sub here.
Regardless of the debates raging about best Bond; car; girl etc. - the fact that he responded to you is awesome in its own right!
Surely a contender for best car!
Great George replied!
Guess he maybe flogged it when he fell on hard times after quitting Bond
My fave Bond film is a 3 way tie:
On her Majesty’s Secret Service / Casino Royale and Thunderball
Domino my fave Bond girl by far!!!!
I always liked OHMSS, one of the best I always thought. I also liked GL and was intrigued by the dislike for him/his performance as Bond, seemed pretty good to me? Anyone know why he was replaced/how he blotted his copybook?
Stardom went to his head and his agent persuaded him that doing another Bond film would not be good for his career and that the franchise was not going to last!!
There is a cool 50th anniversary documentary (Everything or Nothing) where a old and emotional George talks of this in detail and you cant help feeling a little for him and his huge mistake. He tells a good story of his time as Bond (prob highly exaggerated) but I find him likeable since he doesn't hold back on anything and a good story teller.

What, as a model, or that particular car is no more?

Although I prefer the hardtop!
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
OHMSS is definitely my favourite Bond film and as others have said, I think it has dated pretty well.
Very much a fan of Lazenby in it and I believe he cooked his goose by making excessive demands to make another.
The book is also a very good read.
scooter
OHMSS also has the coolest chase music

He had lots of guts!
John Barry at his best. Although this could be another thread starting if you list the best Barry Bond scene music.
007 and counting is one of my favourites

Apparently GL was treated appallingly on set by Rigg and a lot of the film crew for being a novice actor. I imagine that also had a fair amount to do with him chucking it in.
I like Diana Rigg and she is great in the film but I think she regards herself as a proper actress and like you said properly didn’t have much time for a model and novice actor.
I heard a story recently where she arrived at a hotel near the location for OHMSS in Switzerland. The manager of the hotel was a huge Avengers fan and welcomed her as Mrs Peel.
Apparently Diana Rigg then immediately asked to be moved to another hotel.
I had a huge crush on her in the Avengers but she just didn't look or act like a Bond girl, square peg and round hole.
She definitely has an arrogant air about her, probably to do with drama schooling.
Liz Hurley should have had a bit part in Bond films. Stunning to look at but can't act for toffee and has a really annoying plummy accent.
