    Naval Sonar Timer

My father was clearing out some drawers and came across what appears to be a Sonar Timer stopwatch.
Anyone know much about them and any ideas as to potential value ?

Used to set timers on depth charges.Using sonar ping/sound travel through water measuring with the stopwatch as an indicator of depth of U-boat.Worth approx £50.There is a bit of info out there if you Google.Notice you don't have any military markings on the back though

I think it was the distance of the U-Boat from the ship rather than the depth, as U-Boats only submerged to depths of up to a couple of hundred metres.

    A nice thing to see.

Yep, sonar. The speed of sound in water is about 1640 yards per second, which is why 1600 is opposite 2 seconds - the time for the sound to get there and back.

These are often known as ASDIC stopwatches - Allied Submarine Detection Investigation Committee.
