I owned a few Panerai years ago and was part of the Paneristi forum group that met up in Germany for the annual event, plus also in Viareggio in the early 2000s.
My first ever Panerai was the PAM02 on the left - a manual wind Base model dating from around 2002-2003 if I recall.
The one on the right is a bit more special - it is the ref 5218-201A Pre-Vendome Logo with non-matching dial, dating from 1993. It is the same model that Sylvester Stallone wore in Daylight, although he wore one with a matching dial. The strap is also the oroginal sharkskin strap that came with the watch in 1993. I don't own any Panerai now but I do like the older models, especially the Pre-Vendome and Vendome models.
There’s a 201A for sale on paneristi now for 39k dollars,I’d be interested to know what the rrp was on one back in the early 90s.

Still kicking myself up the arse for not buying Freds 213.
RIAC
Thanks, Tony - I can believe that as the prices for these have gone through the roof (wish I'd kept mine longer). My one came from Markus Tschopp originally who is quite a famous watch dealer. I don't know the history of the watch or who first bought it. I also had the option of buying a Mare Nostrum but passed on that to buy this. Little did I know that it would have been a sound investment to have bought both, kept them for 10 years and then sold them on to pay for more important things in life.
Watch finder have a dot dial 233 with box and papers in the sale at 5950 ,thought I’d mention it ,I think it’s a good price.

285
Beast.

That 285 looks amazing for its age. Hard to beat a 47mm sub.
Enjoying my 112 today which is pretty much the opposite end of the spectrum from the Goldtech OroCarbo I've just received an email about, I'm not a gold loving guy but I kind of like it. Unfortunately there's an extra zero on the price tag for me, I'm out

With the normal 20 percent off retail it doesn't seem too excessive compared to, say, the WG YM. Of course we all k ow which will be worth more on resale.
Gorgeous watch tho, 44mm is a really nice size for a submersible.

Got 2 new straps for the 512. Which one looks best?
Have to agree. A strap that doesn't fill the lugs totally annoys me.

He’s stating end of Dec for delivery so he’d better be behind me on the list at the London boutique.
£4K over list. God loves a trier.

Well I must have been up the list because they phoned me this morning to let me know it had come into stock.
I’m off to pick it up on Saturday from the boutique. Feels like Christmas has come a week early.
I know it’ll be a marmite model but I’m actually quite excited to see what it will look like in the flesh, having seen so many Instagram photos over the last few months.

I’m sure we’ll see some pics

A long day trip to London completed today. Apart from picking up the 2020 the white gold 10 day 496 was just wonderful and If I could I would. I should have taken a picture of the back of the platinum 521 because the movement was lovely. The Tourbillon was a work of art but just an obscene amount of money. It was also an absolute beast on my wrist.
As I’m fast approaching 50 I wanted to see what a gold watch looked like on me. I’m still undecided.
Thankfully the text at the bottom is quite subtle and not really noticeable on the wrist. I also don’t seem to be able to take any decent pictures of it. Natural light will probably help but it was dark when I got back.

A perfect Saturday and good you got there before Tier 4 came in.
I must admit that the end the 2020 model looks a lot better than the initial rendering I saw in March. The domed crystal is the big win IMO. I also love the aged steel and the dial colour/texture. Personally not a fan of the 'risti text on the dial or case back. It does look great on your wrist.

Here a new one I only came across this morning the PAM1099.
I'm not a fan (of the mixed material car or red) but you gotta say that it's quite a piece. Perhaps a bit too RM or Roger Dubuis for my liking, but does show the skill of Laboratorio di Idee. https://www.instagram.com/p/CI81Q4SJ...d=79qfayy62ipq

I am with Alun here, didn't like the first pics of the 20th model but it looks much better on the wrist than I imagined it would. I just love the aged steel look, and the script on the dial is all but invisible in your pics.
What did you think of the goldtech? I am looking for a retirement watch and I like the look of it, apart from the black crown. Was it noticeable when on the wrist?
Thanks. Rob

Regarding the 2020 I’m glad I took the plunge now. The pictures I’ve posted don’t really show how nice the dial is against the contrast of the aged steel. The text can only really be seen at certain angles and is all but invisible otherwise.
Of the two gold subs I preferred the look of the 42mm but would want it in a bigger size. I wasn’t keen on the bezel and the black crown on the goldtech. My eye was drawn to the crown when it was on my wrist. It’s a crude statement but my first thought was two pieces of black Lego. It’s all in the eye of the beholder though and I don’t think the black rubber strap helped.
For me the star on the table was the white gold 496. Apart from the magnifier over the date that felt special to me. Especially when you compare the case material to the stainless steel 662 next to it.

I’m glad I’ve seen one but it was more a piece of art than anything else. Joe was saying that they are made to order by one of eleven specialists in a separate department at the factory. He also commented that it was a bit fun and had simply been made to show off what can be achieved with money being no object.

Andy, great to see the 2020, and it looked like a brilliant day out at the boutique.
I never quite understood the negative comments from some re the 2020, personally think there was a bit of sour grapes going on in the Panerai communities.
Everything to me about it is right, i always suspected the inscription on the dial would meld in, in saying that its a 20th anniversary model so i do think it is a good way to capture that.
It looks great on the OEM strap. Health to wear you lucky sod!!

I have two Panerai’s now. Both titanium, preferring the Matt finish of titanium to polished steel. A 352 tobacco dial with gold hands (it’s the ti bracelet version) but I prefer it on a brown Panerai rubber strap. Also I recently got a 389 Submersible Amagnetic which I’m enjoying - managed to source a few different coloured Panerai 26mm accordion straps to mix it up a bit. I’m still on the lookout for a white 26mm rubber The Panerai quick release strap change system is incredible.
My preference for titanium is a bit ironic given that my right arm is now full of titanium plates following a recent accident.

Appreciating Panerai this morning :)
The green diver strap a Christmas incoming. Works really well. Now have the navy, black and olive, so got plenty of options.
And, the 422... I almost bought this from Rob back in 2017 in response to a WTB, and almost bought again a number of times as it spent it's holidays with Celia, Mark and Steve and maybe others? In great nick and interesting to finally have it. It wears bigger than the 670 and 389 and my 587, which surprises me, but I guess the shiny steel, clean dial, only subtly domed crystal and weight all add up. Serious DNA and a great one watch Panerai, not that that applies in my case.
Have a great weekend folks. Be safe.

I too picked the 372 over a 422 ,which I think was a mistake,I’d of had that 422 last year if it hadn’t been for the 1314 purchase.
They do wear big though compared to a 389 .
Enjoy it looks great

Glad to see my old 422 has a loving home. I had both the 372 and 422 at the same time, briefly, and the 372 JUST won for me. However, as said above, it would be a better option for an "only" PAM.
Here is my latest arrival now on a bakeka strap, loving the domed crystal. If it has a date complication it would be a perfect everyday wearer.
