Thread: Panerai appreciation thread

You again....stop calling me a thief
Start using that thing between your years and read again the entire story
It's not my fault that maybe some foreigners made you sad in the past (and...for sure made some other members of your family happy)
It's the only reason that I can think of in order to understand your totally obtuse position
Read again...pay attention and , with some luck, you'll understand ...

Nothing to do with "foreigners" and everything to do with stealing.

33JS thread was started about the ebay theft well before it turned out to be you so you can stop pretending that race has anything to do with it.

  5. #1555
Not going to continue this with any obtuse idiot around here.
Just ask yourself why the real thief didn't answer any of the questions and just started his thread just because he love to pose as a victim.
He wasn't a victim and his shity strap was completly rotten and he knew it
Talking about rotten.......ask yourself what drives you into this discussion without understand anything.....whithout using, first of all, the common sense and that old brain.....
    Enjoy your pitiful life

Had several beers, took a pic, 61 on another Hurricane 13 strap. Other really good strap manufacturers are available - Vintager, Kostas, Cordes, Orloff, Toshi, Di Stephano.............

    That is the 422.
The same watch without the second hand is the 372.
Both being 47mm, and pure classics from the panerai family

Took a few straps away with me to spice up the 1226. Blue, green, black and orange respectively. With the white dial anything goes and a little disappointed I didn’t bring more!

Finally bit the bullet and bought a 422, have never owned a 47, my ‘go to’ watch recently has been my 42 Sub, was a little apprehensive over sizing but pleasantly surprised how comfy it feels on the wrist…

Always shied away from 42’s, people saying go they’re too small etc…. I actually prefer the smaller sub than it’s big brothers.

The 422 is a great watch, I always loved the pri on the reverse. Still miss mine.
Btw the 42mm sub is not little, try my 49 for that.

Yeh! At last I have managed to get the supplied rubber strap on my PAM01661. I even took the watch and strap to my local dealership who struggled to change the strap without success. After using logic I found that the rubber strap had included metal inserts which needed to be pushed out before the springbar style bars could be installed.

The inserts can clearly be seen here in the rubber strap:

So fitting worked fine without them:

I feel a lot more confortable wearing the Carbotech in the pool now as the leather backed strap was showing signs of wear.

    All the best

Yes, it’s an odd decision by Panerai to include the metal inserts on the rubber when they aren’t needed. I also find it strange they didn’t include some form of spring bar removal tool.

    Still it’s a great watch.

Quick question for the 422 owners or previous-

When winding I don’t seem to feel any resistance indicating fully wound, shows fully wound on the indicator but you can keep winding without feeling anything different? I thought I would feel something like my 590, could easily feel when that was fully wound. Do I just wind it until the indicator shows full or should I feel something?

I’ve tried googling it but haven’t found anything definitive.

I know people rave about the 372 and further up the £££ scale the 127 but I have to say the 422 is just a perfect 47 Pam.

Good luck with it, looks class.

Cheers Nev- I spent ages deciding between the pair, second hand and power reserve indicator swung it for me, I suppose it’s all personal preference but agree 422 is perfect for me. Now all I need I need to know is how to wind it correctly, see post 1580 :-)

    Hi Rob,

Mine doesn’t stop in the same way my 590 did. You knew easily when that was fully wound because you couldn’t move the wheel any further without forcing it.
Resistance starts to build up as you get to the end on my 422. It’s not massive but I can feel when I need to stop. The indicator then tell you you are at the end.

I’ve had other references that have been the same.

Thanks Andy for the info, much appreciated.

I was expecting something similar to the 590, thought I was going mad when winding it.

I’ll just keep an eye on the pri and be careful not to over wind it.

I will echo what Andy said. I have had two PAMs with pri, a 422 and a 346, and each time I wound until it indicated fsd. Winding on more gave a slight but increasing resistance.
On a side note do you find the wind lasts longer than indicated? I found the 8 day movement usually lasted more than 9 days from fully wound, but not much more than the 3 days for the P3001 in the 422.

I appreciate that difficulty, I ended up with a 422 and a 372 at the same time. I agonised over which to sell and eventually moved on the 422. On the bright side that 422 has been round a few TZers so many have enjoyed it.
And I still don't know if I made the correct call.

Echo that Rob, my 590 seemed to last longer than the 8 days, couple of times I forgot to wind it after 8 days and it was still going, 422 is def 3 days, forgot to wind it the other day and it stopped.

I think I was expecting a noticeable difference when it was fully wound, just threw me a bit.

With the 1033 and 995 sold off I decided to go for something special for my 50th birthday next year.

Picked this up this morning. An unworn 2019 watch with all the stickers still on.

I now need to find a suitable strap.

Two watch garage at the moment and loving both. Although both 47mm the 422 wears bigger on the wrist. Also looks bigger due to the domed glass.

Can’t wait to get the 968 off the OEM strap.

Like that a lot, its a beauty. I know I will probably be flamed for this, but I prefer the 968 to the older 507 / 671 / 382.
