    Are Monta smashing it?

The brand that make those expensive rubber straps for Rolex make some good looking watches I reckon.

They have released the Atlas. 38.5mm diameter, 10.2mm thick. Nice design, good date window placement. Range of strap options. They use selita movements so not a “true” GMT, which is the main downside I guess. I may have one of these in the future though.

It joins a line up of good looking, sensibly sized watches.

They do look rather good. I keep looking at the Triumph.

    Ha ha!
I have to agree. I would not want to buy one new if the sold prices on SC are anything to go by.
    Vastly over priced.

Lovely watches, horrendous service. I wouldn't deal with them again on that basis.

No idea how well they're made, but based on the images here they look like they've been assembled from random spare parts. Too much going on on the dial and that stepped GMT hand is very inelegant to my eyes.

I bought a Monta watch direct from them a few years ago for around 2 and a half grand. Was nice enough but what p*ssed me off was them arbitrarily reducing the price to around £1400 a few weeks later. Not as part of a sale, it was a permanent price reduction thereby rendering my resale value much lower. They couldn't have been less interested when I took this up with them.

I had exactly the same experience. Left a particularly bad taste and I'd never buy new from them again.

They don't sell well in Sweden because Monta means "the period" over here.

Ridiculous thread title. I’d say they definitely aren’t smashing it.

No, the original always had the eterna movement, it was when they decided to abandon high St sales and go direct to consumer.

They were bloody awful to deal with. A simple warranty repair took 3 months (and 2 attempts) to fix. The date issue was still present after the first attempt, and was around the time they were at a big trade show so I suspect they didn't do anything, just sent it back. Second time around they marked the package as a gift, landing me with a hefty customs charge. And when I raised this as unacceptable, they started ignoring my emails.

Wow. I might think again. In fact, yeah, I don’t want any of that. This kind of thing deserves to lose them customers.

I was corresponding with the owner, Justin. Really poor experience.

Seems like the only thing they are smashing is their reputation.

If the watches in the pictures were in the Steinhart money range then they might compete okay with other micro brands but at those prices - no thank you..

I don't know if they're smashing it or not, but some of their watches do look rather nice.

Halios do similar design, and with good customer service.

I say, chaps, I do believe that these fellows are producing wristwatches which very nearly warrant the chatter their chums in the world of bloggery having been coming out with.

The thing is,most bloggers got paid to promote stuff

And with their asking price,I think they’re too much (though that means they can afford to pay the aforementioned bloggers)

But bad CS on new brand? That’s auto elimination in my book

In fairness, the watches are a cut above halios quality wise. I've had both, and the ocean feels comfortably at the Tudor black bay level (arguably a bit nicer )

Monta are trying to pull off a difficult trick.
They are new starters, beginning a way up the cost tree, definitely not at the bottom.
Plus, they are offering non-derivative designs that look traditionally familiar and conservative, but that are not hommages.
So they are asking people to stump up a reasonably large amount of money for original designs with no heritage.
I admire thier style, but it is a hard place to start, and brand scepticism is bound to lead to massive value drops when you buy one, making it an even tougher thing to sell new ones.
Personally I like their designs, but they are almost at the point of being too conservative to distinguish themselves.

Does anyone know of any good AM bracelet options for the Monta Triumph? I have a bead on a used one with only the rubber- and the nato strap.
