mate at work has a pre maxi case sub and recently had it on a tan leather strap for a few weeks, it looked smart.

For me personally Nay, but who cares what anyone else thinks, if you like it then wear the hell out of it. Sometimes it's nice to swap watches over to leather for a while even if they do look best on their bracelets, variety is the spice of life and all that.

it went back on the bracelet before a holiday for ease of wearing on the beach, in the sea etc. and tbh....asking a guy at work for a photo would feel odd! it made it look less tool watch and more vintage-cool in my view.

Nay, at least on my wrist, unless it's a leather NATO. Something about the bracelet just works without fail and I find everything else just isn't quite as good.

Looks fine to me. I think both NATO’s and vintage leather straps work on pre ceramic Submariners.

The older ones do look good on leather except I hate them on the new 6 digit references.

Leather straps don't do it for me but it makes a change and each to their own.

Several bracelet watches look good on leather...

  15. #15
Nay for me. If you're after a change, I'd go for a nato. Difficult though when it's got the perfect partner in the bracelet.

Looks really good if it’s a vintage style strap and on the pre-maxi cases...

Have to say those straps are very nice indeed. Are they Bulang and sons?

Here's my sub on leather. I'm not convinced it's a winner, prefer the bracelet!

I think it looks great.. much preferred over the bracelet, but then I do prefer leather straps.

A dive watch on leather, no way. A black faced dive watch on brown leather double no way.

Nope, they look dreadful on leather, be it a strap or NATO.

I genuinely don’t think Sub-style watches work on leather.
I don’t have an issue with divers on leather per se (I think
Panerais look far better on leather than on steel, for example), but I think Rolex divers only work on steel or rubber.

I do think the photo above with a Sub on a leather flieger looks particularly peculiar, btw...

IMHO it looks great. Personally I've never found a bracelet that's as comfortable as a strap and much prefer the look of a strap. I guess if you actually wanted to go diving or swimming wearing the watch it wouldn't be very practical but, as most people on here seem to be afraid to wear theirs in the rain it's not really an issue.

I think rolex suit their bracelets best.. vintage subs on nato's look okay but I dont think 2 piece leathers suit them.

Its all in the eye of the beholder and this beholder says none of the pictures so far look right to me. Rolex on leather doesn't do it for me and more so any black faced watch with a brown strap

  28. #28
What these photos don’t show are the unfinished areas between the lugs which are very noticeable on the wrist.

    Rolex and leather?
    Like a hand in glove.
Those who say a black dial watch doesn't go with brown leather have no idea what they are talking about.

They look great. I particularly like 5513’s with faded bezels on leather. Bulang & Sons often post some lovely images.

Another vote for leather on the 4 and 5 digit Subs from me. Not on the six digits though, they look terrible.

I like those Rajen. I've just bought a tan leather nato to put my blue Bond SMP on, hpe it looks as good as those subs on leather.

Nope, still doesn't look right to me so I'll have to live with having no idea apparently.

IMHO I think that a vintage Sub no date can be paired with a leather strap. All the others look strange. I have put mine on a green nato strap once but couldn‘t cope with it at all. Therefore I‘ve put it back on the bracelet eversince.

I guess what ever is confortable and looks good to your eyes is fine.

I couldn‘t do it maybe because I don‘t have guilted dials and one with date..

I like em on navy leather. This is a JPM but IIRC they manufacture for bulang who add their branding.
