At last I decided to sell my old car, bought it new in 2007 and in the last couple of years it has done nothing other than get in the way and cost me money to tax, test and insure.
Wife has a nice car and a 2 seater thing for the 3 hot days we have a year (that's only done 900miles in the last 2 years), I have another car (that I do around 25,000/yr in) and we have a motor-home.
So this week I thought lets get it up for sale. Private plate removed, into the garage for a service and check over. Quick wash and brush up and bob's your uncle get it on Autotrader.
Can't do it. It's coming back home with me. I've put the private plate on retention so it's back on the original plates but that's as far as I got.
It's worth bugger all now but of all the cars I've owned, I've become, for some unknown reason, very attached to it.
Many a road trip during the first 5 or 6 yrs of it's life was taken through France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and Ireland. All the road trips are now done with the motor home.
Anyone else got attached to something? Is this normal or am I a little bit mental.

I do have guitars that I almost never play that I'm attached to and can't bring myself to dispose of. Fortunately they take up less space!

My old girl has the same effect on me! I was on my way to look at another car and thought "What am I doing?" I don't want a new, turbocharged, fuel efficient box.
She's 20 years old in a couple of months time and I don't mind admitting that I enjoy spending time with a 20 year old girl!

I've got rid of many cars before their time over the years, and regretted a couple. If you don't need to change it, don't!

As you say, it is not worth a great deal. BUT, I guarantee you, as you take a wedge of notes from a buyer, shake their hand and give him/her the keys, you will look at the notes in your hand, then look at the car that you have just sold and you will realise which you prefer to have. If you have the room, keep this nice car and enjoy it, you will be glad you did.

Mk2.5 MX5, I kept her 9 years, bought a Boxster to replace her and sold the Boxster, I finally replaced her this year, with a new MX5! Some cars just get under your skin.
I hold onto things but when it comes to cars, if it’s just costing you general maintenance plus tax/test/insurance, and you have the space I’d just keep it.
What’s it worth in pound notes versus what does it mean to you?

I've had a 2003 Saab 9-3 convertible for the last 6 years, even though it's not been particularly suitable/big enough for the last 4 years since the wife downsized, but its flown through every MOT so i kept hold of it.
A few knocks from the front and a bad power steering fluid leak meant i knew i was in for a bill, so bought a banger Mondeo estate to replace it. Mondeo passed it's MOT yesterday, so now the Saab can go, but i'm the same, i'll miss the old girl.
What engine is that 300C, and how much is the 'bugger all' that it's worth? Always fancied a Heisenberg mobile

Keep it. I reckon true attachment to inanimate objects is actually quite rare. I was gutted when my Jag S-Type had a minor shunt but was way way cheaper to right off and had to go 👿

I think that one is the Merc 3l V6.
I loved my 300c estate with the same engine. I keep looking at the 6.2l V8’s when I have drunk too much!

Not 4 wheels, but 2. I've owned my Ducati ST3 since September 2004 when I purchased it new from my local Ducati dealer in Bristol.
Since then we've had countess fantastic trips together: Holidays in Tuscany and the Loire valley. Moto GP trips to the Czech Republic, Le Mans, Mugello and Donington Park ;-)
Extensive European touring, from France to Poland down to Croatia and everywhere in between. She's proved faultless. Absolutely no problems. Regular servicing, tyres etc and that's it.
No electronic aids, rider assist gizzmos just a fantastic motor in a sporty package but with two up touring ability which I need as my good lady rides pillion. Worth about £3k now and a new Multistrada or similar would set me back about £15k plus. I've considered trading her in a few times but each time I just can't do it too many lovely memories to let her go now.
So, she's staying in the garage with trips to Bruges and Aragon for the Moto GP already sorted for this year.

It’s a 3.0lt V6 supplied by Mercedes. Chrysler was at the time owned by Daimler Benz and a lot of the 300c running gear is E class.
They can be had for £3000ish but I suppose a one owner FSH looked after example like mine would be £4000ish.
When I bought mine there was a waiting list and used ones were making more than new. It is silly fast for such a big lump and mine was borrowed by Diesel Car magazine when they did a feature on them as they couldn’t get one from Chrysler due to the shortage at the time.
They aren’t Merc standard inside, in fact maybe a little low rent in all honesty, but it still puts a smile on my face.
My daily driver now is an Jaguar XF which is much more refined and loaded with goodies but doesn’t quite have the same personality. The Chrysler is a thug of a car and I keep thinking it’s going to start a fight. My Jag’s frightened of it and doesn’t like being alone on the drive with it :)

Oh yes, the V8 6.2 SRT (Street Racing Technolgy) proper muscle car. I’d love one.
The 300c estate was a corker of a load lugger but was in fact a Dodge Magnum with a 300c front end. It saved them the cost of developing their own estate by using that existing platform.
