    Do your research

Pay for a full-page advert, tell people to "do your research" and then get the lyrics quote wrong.

Wouldnt expect much more from CW.
They have no value on their own watches or customers and ultimately their brand perception.

Watch is €950 on the website.
Come fathers day it will be available for 30% to 50% less in a flash sale.
A quality brand shouldnt have to slash all their products in flash sales to shift them. its a big F**K you to customers who paid full price and slashes the value of the watch ( if you're ever looking to shift it on later).

Id just wait until after fathers day, note the price, probably 600 quid or less, then wait for a 2nd hand one to become available.
Watch is now only worth 600 new, 2nd hand Id be looking for paying quite a bit less than that. At worst one should score the watch for at least half its RRP and probably less, depending on ones bargaining powers.

You think we look pretty good together
You think my shoes are made of leather

But I'm a substitute for another guy
I look pretty tall but my heels are high
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young, but I'm just back-dated, yeah
    Desperate stretch

Quite - I saw this on the back of Private Eye and immediately thought substitute was more relevant here.

When you think of the brands that shouldn’t say do your research, CW come a close third to Eaglemoss and MWC.

The best joke in the eye this month.

Now c’mon, if folks did a little bit of research where would we be? The Bear Pit wouldn’t be half as entertaining for a start.

The ad is saying I'm attractive but old/retro.

Unfortunately, the lyric quoted is wrong.

I think the lyric is a play on words and intentional actually.
Unless of course Eddie has introduced the arrows and underlining in red in which case, ignore everything I just typed.
I've not seen the ad itself mind...

Now I'm bamboozled. Lol. I assumed the arrows were Eddie's!

None of the red was on the original advert.

You should offer them the arrows for a juicy fee and they could make the advert intentionally ironic.

Well in that case, it's very definitely a poor show from their marketing dept...

I lifted it off Facebook, the guy who posted it added ALL the red.

I am sure the change is on purpose. But, it does appear a bit silly. However, it doesn't take away anything from what they do and produce. They have a definite place on the watch industry and trying to climb up the ladder in a crowded marketplace. This kind of silly marketing doesn't help their cause if they want to be taken seriously.

Credit here to my friend Nicholas Whitehead, who did the bits in the red to point out the misquote.

I tagged Eddie in Nick's fb post and that's how it ended up here.

    Pretty funny though.

I want a Ward vs Platts battle. Maybe Bremont vs Loomes? Then there's Frodshams vs Roger Smith (in a different league, admittedly).

But what contest? A duel? (If so, swords or pearl-handled flintlock pistols?) A bar room brawl / punch up at a wedding? Chess? Arm-wrestling? Pub quiz? Fag-rolling?

I know: watch making. So, look away now if you don't want to know the score:

    E Platts 3 - C Ward 2

    Bremont Bros 1 - Mrs & Mrs Loomes 1

    Frodshams 5 - R Smith 6

(Results are all my own invention)

Having only recently learnt about Frodsham’s existence, it appears that their workshop is just up the road from where I live.

The creator of this emended advert had a reply from CW:

    Christopher Ward:
"Hi Nicholas, thanks we've seen your tweets this morning. We adapted the lyrics to reflect the watch more accurately."

Which put me in mind of this:

“Last year, the CEO of a major Swiss luxury watch brand heard rumours about SH21 and his – frankly, affronted – comment was “What gives you the license to do that?”

    . . . .

“We give ourselves license to do this…”

    https://wornandwound.com/introducing...-game-changer/

    http://kavanaghcommunications.com/pr...-luxury-watch/

    And to, er, change lyrics?

"Who are you?" springs to mind.

Ten years ago we launched the world’s first pure online business model for luxury watches; we created a new paradigm in blending supreme quality with unprecedented value that challenged the industry norm.
Really? I'd been trading online for 8 years and making my own watches for 3 by then.

They’ll be claiming to have made the first watch to summit Mount Everest next!
