Hong Kong - tailor and area to stay.

Not been for a few years, but will be heading off soon. Can anyone reccomend a good tailor? It’s a bucket list thing and my father wants to get one made.

Also I normally stay over on the island by the exibition centre, any other areas I should be looking at?

It's not going to be for everyone, but I love staying in Tseun Wan. It's a great place to explore.

In Kowloon, about 40 minutes out from Central on the train. Very few tourists, very busy, safe, great markets. I stay at the Panda. Mid-range, cheap.

Last time I went seemed to always end up around the Ocean Centre, so I'd be suggesting somewhere around there. Right next to the Star Ferry terminal so easy access across to HK island.

It was Sam’s on Nathan Rd that was the “go to” tailor, with lots of celeb’s photos on the wall. Think Michael Palin went there when he did his first 80 days thing way back.

I imagine the original Sam must be retired or deceased but the shop’s still there in Burlington Arcade.

A tailor made suit in Hong Kong is not cheap anymore, if on a longer trip go across the border into Shenzhen.
Sam's and other tailors are in Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui.
Areas to stay: New Territories - Sha Tin, Kowloon - Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Jordan, Tsim Sha Tsui, HK Island - Wan Chai, Causeway Bay.

Royal Plaza - Kowloon. Excellent location and very good hotel. It’s attached to a shopping mall with tube access.

I will report back with the name of my tailor (who is excellent) as I need to check his name

    Thanks all.

Jimmy - The name of the tailor would be much appreciated.
