    What watch for £10k

Collection has swelled recently so possibly think of consolidating slightly. Considering selling my Pelagos and DJ41 TT and getting something for around £10k. I know all subjective and down to personal tastes but any recommendations? I don’t mind buying used. Would be nice if it held some value so wouldn’t be taking a massive hit come the inevitable resale down the line. Would like a watch.that can be dressed up and down, suitable for most occasions. Approx 40mm in size give or take a few mm either side. Something not too chunky though as I’d like it to fit under a shirt cuff. Open to either bracelet/strap/rubber. I don’t need another diver as already have an Omega 300 TT on rubber and a Tudor black bay. Other watches in the collection are an Omega speedmaster and a Rolex OP39mm black dial.

What should I have a look at?

    Sell these??

    Cheers
    Mike

Does it have to be £10k? Seems an odd basis on which to choose a watch, i.e. cost?

Not really that odd. I sell two watches and (hopefully) raise up to £10k...that is what I have to spend. That is not the deciding factor, purely denotes what options are available to me.

I’d spend 10 times less and get a LLD

If you fancy going Independent you have some awesome options. I highlight 3 of my favourites. Starting with this Ming world timer.

    next up a Habring2 doppelfelix -

And lastly what about customising and getting an Ochs Und Junior -

I have had that amount to spend since last year on a watch and the nearest i have come is a Rolex SD43 or SD50 as some refer to it.

Problem is i think it's too much to tie up in one watch.

I quite like a used Breguet Marine 5817 on rubber - hits a lot of options and are sufficiently different

If you think resale is inevitable and you want your value preserved then I think that equals sports Rolex. As you don’t want a diver, or something too chunky, that sounds like a GMT complication, so 16710, 116710, 16570

    However....

I would be very tempted by the Ochs and Junior mentioned above, but it would have to be the clever annual calendar or moon phase, not the basic 3 hander.

I would also look at a GO, particularly the blue dialled Panoreserve

But the alarm function won’t be there! And it is quite a charming alarm!

Only slightly over budget by £1.5K gets you a very nice Patek Calatrava.

My initial thoughts were 116613, AP RO or Saxonia, although they what I’d try to buy rather than suggestions for you.

I'll second the AP RO option as it's next on my list. Feels much nicer on the wrist than you'd imagine from the pictures

Am I missing something or is this the bargain of the century? I thought they were worth a lot more?

If you're happy to go used then it's a one horse race. Buy the AP and realise how mid range all the Rolex/Omega/IWC/Zenith stuff is.

If you are going new I think it's a harder decision because there's not masses out there at 10k vs say 6k.

Maybe a JLC Polaris, Vacheron fifetysix or PAM 1950 white.

If it were me I'd probably chicken out and get a new Explorer 1 and used DSOTM to cover all the bases.
