New email scam?

Just had a variant of the 'I have your password and have videos of you watching porn' email scam.

This one was different as it looked like it actually came from my account to me - e.g johnsmith@xyz.com to johnsmith@xyz.com - hadn't seen that before. The email account in question is one that I know I listed on a website when I was running my own thing so no doubt its easy to scrape.

When I actually checked my Sent mailbox for that account there's no sign of it having been sent. The fact they could spoof the sending address seems to be a new trick. I ran a scan of the mac just in case anyway - nothing found.

Anyone else had one like this?

No, but lots of others have. It's a scam.

Do check if your password has been compromised though and change passwords everyif you're on here: https://haveibeenpwned.com/

If you want to check if you actually sent it to yourself, look in your sent items. If it is not there, then don't stress.

Any webcam would have seen me drooling over certain watches on this forum, asking questions about my car and staring out of the window - hardly the stuff of extortion!
