    BLNR finished?

Is it old news? I was told today it is soon to be history (not that it bothers me)

Prefer the black bezel bezel GMT with the green highlights - love a touch of green!

    Cheers

I have heard it from a few sources that the BLNR is discontinued and not to return but as far as I am aware this is completely unconfirmed.

If it is properly discontinued then prices will go crazy.

Maybe they'll see sense and go back to aluminium inserts. Breath. Holding. Not.

Would it get a different reference for a movement upgrade though?

Two ADs I spoke to said independently that Rolex has never run two coloured ceramic bezel SS GMTs concurrently and that their money was on the BLNR disappearing altogether. One of them said he had been told that new 3235 movement will be available in SS 36mm Datejusts from March.

I think it's a racing certainty that the SS Datejust will get the changes introduced last year to the Bimetal. I can`t get too excited about longer power reserves, but for a watch that's worn Mon-Fri but not weekends I guess it helps. Theoretically the watch should spend more of its time in a high enough state of wind to give ideal timekeeping provided the auto-winding's very efficient.

As for the BLNR, it seems strange to discontinue a model that's in demand. Love it or loathe it, demand continues to outstrip supply.

It was suggested that might happen with the SDc4000. Obviously that was discontinued because it was so unpopular so you'd think that relative 'rarity' would make it more valuable. It's not happened and they don't appear on SC at that much more of a premium than most professional model - and much less than some!

Yes. This is old news. Probably to be replaced with the 3235 movement and jubilee and a price increase.

The SD4K was the runt of the litter until it was discontinued, then prices went from ~£6k to nearer £9k.

This is very likely but I think the following year rather than this year.

And given the general upward trend in prices over the same period, that is pretty modest. Certainly not price "going crazy" in the Rolex price bubble!

It would seem strange, but then again, maybe it would make Rolex more money in the long run - for each randomly colored ceramic bezel variant that is introduced, customers would need to race against time to acquire them, as you never know when they will be arbitrarily discontinued.

If you know there is no chance of waiting around hoping for the craze to die down and getting one easily, then you had better start buying your wife random Datejusts or a Cellini to get up the list.

The same thing was said last year about the LV and nothing changed. I’ll only believe it when Rolex announce it.
Otherwise it’s all aboard the hype train

If a coke model is launched at Basel then Rolex will have the 3 'traditional' models launched and so there may not be any need for the BLNR in their mind.

  31. #31
If watchfinder read this thread they will adjust their prices on the BLNR to £29,995 !

It's strange how just adding blue to the bezel can make people lose their minds. Only a year ago you could pick up a GMT with the green anywhere and get a bit of discount with it.

I'd take the green GMT over the batman any day of the week.

Seeing how they just released their second two colored ceramic bezel SS GMT just last year, I'm not sure how that's a meaningful statement. In fact, for every moment in time that two two colored ceramic bezel SS GMTs have existed, they have done so concurrently.

I think they were suggesting that Rolex has only produced one two coloured bezel at a time in SS. When Pepsi arrived, production of BLNR ceased.

Haven't heard of anyone getting a discount on one of these for quite some time. You must have a very good relationship with an AD?

Indeed. I looked at the LN in early 2015 and no AD I spoke to would entertain a discount.

It`s 99,99% that they will stop the production of Batman. Info from my local Rolex dealer.

BLNR to return with new movement in PM. Used SS models will trade in the same ballpark as PM items, only Rolex could pull this off.

In your opinion , or is this the general feeling you get from reading watch forums ?

  47. #47
I remember when the 16610LV was originally released there was talk of it only being made for a year, then that proved incorrect, then every 6 months throughout its production somebody on the forum said ‘the LV will be discontinued soon’ - right up until the 16610 was discontinued and the new fat ceramic Sub came out......then they released the ‘hulk’. I have no idea why the LV or these ‘rare’ versions command such high prices secondhand, they must have produced thousands of them.
The sad thing is, imho, the standard black dialled ‘vanilla’ subs and GMT’s are so much nicer - now they’ve taken away the option of swapping bezel colours on the gmt by changing a pressed aluminium ring to an expensive bit of pottery, they’ve spoiled the fun too! - it’s all hype but some love to play along and that’s their choice, I reckon it’s a load of cobblers but I’m becoming old and grumpy!

A few years ago you could buy a BLNR from a window display and get a free service too.
