It's probably unpopular to say that (with the exception of modern Rolex Explorer II) new 6-digits look very boring looking watches that do nothing for me.

It's an unpopular opinion but very common among Rolex fans too.

I respect them a lot but design wise they are very uninspiring. If I had to wear one, I wouldn't take "Hulk" or "Batman" for free.

It is safe* to take your 200+m WR dive watch to swim, shower or hot bath.

    * - as long as you pressure test it regularly.

And I don't believe "soap!!! will get through gaskets!!!" nonsense.

Green bezels and dials are vile. Although made worse if a dial is both green and California style.

    - Worrying if an automatic is up to a minute fast or slow per day is pointless, if you need that accuracy, buy a quartz with the change in your pocket.

    - Luxury brands are justified asking whatever extortionate price they wish if people are willing to keep paying it.

    - Seiko are the best value for money automatics on the market.

    - A pretty fashon watch beats a gaudy blinged out, bejazzled, gold rolex/omega/luxury brand worth thousands.

    - When the Apocalypse comes and you have time to only grab one watch, grab a solar G Shock or seiko skx.

Most military inspired watches are boring and overhyped.

Rolex are to solely to blame for profiteering on their brand new watches, not the profiteers.

The only people who have a major problem with hommages are the minority of Rolex owners who spent thousands on their watches purley for brand recognition.

Watches should be worn and enjoyed. We shouldn't baby them and obsess about every little scratch.

colour matching strap, shoes, underwear or whatever piece of garment to tiny coloured splatter on dial is childish.

Buying a watch (that you like) for a 21st birthday present for your newborn son is selfish and foolish. Did you like, or more importantly wear, the same stuff your father wore 21 years ago. The poor little chap is going to be pressurised into wearing something that his mates will mock him for.

Your nice new shiny watch may look good today but in 21 years time it may well be an old mans watch.

You have a point apparently it is not an unpopular opinion...

However I would like to clarify I love NATOs which seems to be a unpopular opinion, virtually evey watch I own is on one... But not on a dress watch, just no! Same for those perlon straps...

  20. #220
    I like Tag Heuer watches

    I’m also anti nato

    Tudors look cheap

Not bothered if a watch runs a few seconds slow or fast in general

Not the biggest fan of my Speedmaster moon watch (after wanting one for a while) the bracelet doesn't fit perfectly (why should I pay for half links ?) and the manual wind annoys me as I always forget to wind it if wearing it for a few days in a row.

Oh... and I think cheap homage watches (Invicta, Alpha) are cool. Absolutely nothing wrong with them, just like buying a toy Mercedes to your son isn't taking anything away from the real one.

If most people with multiple expensive watches, bought one less watch and spent a few quid on decent clothing and footwear, they would look infinitely better and the remaining watches would complement the person, instead of them being a mess wearing an expensive watch.

No...not with you there. I must be such a WIS that I instantly notice what watch people are wearing and don't even glance at their clothes (or even faces....). And if you think watch fashions are silly and pointless, look at the lunacy of the fashion industry!

Bit of a killer quote for the wide range of second hand cheap tat sold in the SC !

I agree with you, British men are generally terrible dressers despite some of the best clothing and footwear originating from this country.

I am mildly surprised at how much passion (for and against) a small strip of woven nylon can generate. So at risk of sticking my head above the parapet I will add a twist to the debate.

    Leather NATOs.

    I quite like mine.

Brown leather strap should be matched by brown shoes, brown belt and, if possible, a brown wallet i.e. all your leather should match......obviously same goes for black. Bracelets and NATOs can go with anything.

Surely Nato colours must be matched with or at least complement clothes? I agree about bracelets but it still depends on dial colour...

If you replaced just the name on the dial of a ‘prestige’ watch brand such as Rolex / PP / AP with ‘Timex’ or ‘Seiko’, much of the enjoyment in wearing the watch would be destroyed for a significant proportion of people who purport to be watch enthusiasts.

Sticking a white rectangle with Comex on Rolex dials really looks crap.
Patek Philippe sports model is a contradiction in terms.

couldn't agree more. LV and Hulk are two of the most unattractive watches out there. Pepsi GMT is un-attractive too (although I own one)....Actually I find the Rolex brand difficult to stomach - it's worn by people who either know nothing about watches but want to make a statement - or in my case own Rolex for investment purposes but kid themselves that these are "great" watches....Both of which are awful reasons to own a watch.

That's so quintessentially British. Look like you don't care but top it with a discreet and expensive watch. The richer you are the less you have to show it...Old school wealth....

    I aspire to that.
