    Ideas needed: Gold look watch

    Hi,
I'm looking for ideas. A friend has a hankering for a gold / gold look watch ...... budget is limited (max £2,000) which rules out real gold in a lot of cases. Quartz preferably.
I'd be interested to hear some suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Daragh

    Victorinox PVD Gold ref: 241692

    Tissot PVD Gold ref: T033.410.33.051.01

Tissot do quite a few models in PHD gold. PVD D gold is more hard wearing than plating.

Rado R14068026 (Rado are probably the best bet... they do a number of models in PVD gold, and just inside your price range. Try Rado PVD Gold Diastar.)

Try and stir away from the fashion brands.

That budget will give him a wide choice of vintage gold dress watches from respected Swiss makers, or a rather smaller choice of vintage gold chronographs. Many will be tiny by modern standards, and I guess he probably wouldn’t want anything slim and 32-33mm. A bit of looking around will throw up a smaller selection of 36-38mm vintage “jumbo” models which are quite wearable.

Hi, is this friend male or female? Do you have a view on the case size they like? New or 'pre-loved'?

Sorry should have been more specific. Male and not fussy 're new or pre owned. Obviously better brand to be had if pre owned.

If vintage and a typically smaller than average today case size doesn't put him off, there are still some lovely gold Omega dress watches to be had on eBay and from dealers.

I got a lovely ~1970 9ct gold Omega manual wind for around a quarter of your budget from eBay.

    Couldn’t agree more.
There are some lovely old gold omega’s out there for not much money. Fun to buy and own.

I agree that second hand vintage is the way to go. I got this 1974 solid gold longines for less than £400.

Such good value for money 👍 If this was a new modern equivalent you would pay £3k I reckon . Maybe more .

Add a few £hundred to the £2K budget and consider acquiring a vintage Vacheron & Constantin 18ct gold dress watch … e.g. a VC 6405 model with K1001 movement … c/w Geneva seal on centre bridge.

Far less expensive than a Patek and at a quarter/third the price of e.g. a Calatrava.
