Can be added to the thread title, now you have spelled it for him.

(I was going for Klammer, myself)

Wasn't he corrupt? Doing bribes for the world cup in German 2006.

Not our (the Dutch) biggest friend after we lost the '74 WC Final, but still he death makes headlines here. And all media agree that 'Der Kaiser' was a well-earned nickname for him. RIP.

    Ahead of his time.

It is on him that many of today and yesteryear are based for sweeper/centre half role.

66 World Cup was when him and Charlton cancelled each other out. Two greats of the game. Both sadly gone.

Like the post above, I proudly wore adidas Beckenbauer Super boots - they were bright green/yellow three stripes.

His teams ruined my childhood, he led the come back for Germany in Mexico 1970 and then destroyed us at Wembley in the European championships in 1972. Great player RIP

I got so close to actually seeing Der Keiser back in 1978 when Chelsea entertained NY Cosmos in a friendly at Stamford Bridge.
Unfortunately along with most of my mates we got locked out once the Bridge official capacity of 39000 was reached, apparently there were at least a further 10000 unofficially inside.
