How much damage can you do to a cars interior with a watch?

If you use anything for something it is not intended for you run a risks. Subs are for diving so are designed to minimise damage to water, which is usually softer than your car (depending on car brand). If you start using it in a car I think you can’t blame Rolex for any damage caused to that car. Unless perhaps you fill the interior of your car with water.

Update: I checked the Rolex site, I think you need a Daytona for driving: “The Cosmograph Daytona, introduced in 1963, was designed to meet the demands of professional racing drivers”

Though it doesn’t state if it doesn’t damage the car interior.

Despite the idiotic original question, the comedy responses have definitely brightened up my snowy Friday morning. Thanks everyone .

This thread needs some interior pics!
What a bizarre question! I’m Pretty sure kids in the back seat can do more damage to the interior than a watch !!

Actual picture of op on the bus to work this morning, decided the high chance of damage to the Volvo wasn't worth the risk.

A steel Citizen Orca could do serious damage to an instrument panel if swung with full wrist force.

I would NEVER use the car if I was wearing a watch for just this reason.

Thought it was only me, I always without fail take my watch off and put it in my pocket, the pocket that doesn’t contain my keys and loose change before getting in my car. I then do the pocket shuffle so that I can get the watch out of my pocket whilst seated and put it on but only after starting the car and putting it into D. Then do the reverse when getting out or when having to shift into R.

In the old days when cars had chokes rather than put the watch back on I used to hang my watch on the choke stalk but that was because back then I had mostly manual cars and couldn’t really be bothered with the pocket shuffle each time I shifted gears. This was one of the main reasons why I purchased an auto as getting the watch in and out of my pockets was ruining the pockets.

The worst thing is when people have their keys in their hand and push the door open and it marks the door panel. I've not heard of a car being damaged by watches- only cigarettes or spliffs falling onto the seats resulting in a burn.

I find knives and children are best at ruining a car’s interior! Either separately or together.

A watch would be pretty low on the list of items I’d consider using TBF.

I’ve seen plenty of people (almost always women actually) balance a huge bunch of keys on the roof of their car, alongside a fancy bag and maybe a coffee cup, then snatch the keys up with an audible scrape. And it always seems to be a flashy brand of handbag (with metal Gucci/Chanel monikered metal corners) and usually a Mercedes/Porsche/Audi R8 - lots of rings and makeup etc. Is there some sort of wealthy/clumsy gene?

Another Proprof accident here, tried to adjust the rear view mirror and accidently bumped the roof... watch didn't get a mark on it.

I'm lucky in that my Jeep Wrangler JKU (4-door) is designed for rough treatment. You can even pull out all the carpeting and hose down the interior if needs be (has water drain plugs in the floor)...... besides the gun cases / shooting gear is likely to cause more scraps than my watches.

Two halves do make a hole though.

OP, buy a pocket watch and keep it in the glove box of your car. On no account wear a platinum Daytona like this poor fool.

Well I certainly do share the OPs concerns. As director of publicity for 'Save the Planet' we want all watch enthusiasts and any other drivers to leave their cars at home and use the increasingly busy public transport options. I cycle 35 miles to work each day (and back if I can) and am pleased to announce that my divers watch has never once inflicted any scratches on my cycle. Although in the interests of balanced and fair reporting I must add that a watch did take out my left eye when I hit a pot hole and tumbled botty over chest - but it's all good as I now wear a crystal with a Cyclops and ride a unicycle.

This post is insulting to the memory of Orde Wingate.

Also it is my understanding that the you should not drive while wearing an antimagnetic watch. It causes the satnav to go all Marengue Boilersuit and you run into a tree
