Manchester?
Long story short but I must write a few words on the best place to live if you move to Liverpool and what’s available online is not exactly helping. Could you give me a few pointers in terms of desirability if someone you know decided to move to Liverpool with a job near the city centre please?
A virtual round is on offer, and not being a football fan I can write a post praising or disparaging any or both clubs as you prefer as a thank you, in the Tz-UK thread of your choice
PS: this thread may have children as I have a few other cities to cover...

Manchester?
Scousers from all areas, like to tell you they are 'from the Wirral'..............
So - I guess that is the place to live (in actuality)
Manchester will be on the list but I haven’t looked on the net what was available in terms of resources, so I wouldn’t want to annoy even more people than I already do by asking them an essay on their hometowns.

I have found a little on the Wirral, as well as on Waterloo/Crosby but no place will write ‘it’s a slum, stay away at all costs’ so getting a more realistic view is difficult.

There's a Mark Steel in Town episode on Birkenhead; it might give you some material.

In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
This is my specialist subject!
I have lived in north Liverpool most of my life with a good few years in the city centre too.
In North Liverpool the best areas for schools, amenities and being close to the beach is Crosby\Blundellsands. Restaurants etc here are great but dont expect a wild night out as it is mainly families and older people.
In South Liverpool there are quite a few nice areas around Allerton etc but my choice would be Woolton which has a much better nightlife that anywhere in North Liverpool but the schools and outdoor activities isnt as good.
Property prices in South Liverpool are slightly higher than the North in general but Crosby\Blundellsands are right up there with the more expensive stuff
Anything else you want to know?
NB. The Wirral is not Liverpool. It has a very different vibe and accent.

That’s awesome mate, I can work from that perfectly as you even covered the school bit, which is essential when choosing where to live when you have or are planning to have children.
Thank you very much!

Brookside Close seems very quiet these days!
Although probably the best advice you can give someone thinking of moving to Liverpool is DON’T!

I would happily live in one of those flats overlooking Albert dock...

Another shout for Formby. There's some very good reasons why a lot of Liverpool and Everton footballers live there.
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
Adding to this, Aigburth and the Lark Lane/Sefton Park areas are lively and attractive. The Smithdown Road and Penny Lane are popular with students. Mostly terraced houses but as bigweb says, Allerton is just up the way and a bit posher.
I haven't lived there for a long time but flats down on the docks seem reasonably priced compared to anything similar in London, and the whole Albert Dock has been regenerated so looks nothing like it did when I left about 20 years ago.
EDIT - Beaten to it ^^^^
The area around Lark Lane is worth a mention for somewhere different and is about as bohemian as Liverpool gets. Some parts of neighbouring Sefton Park are also much more desirable than they once were, especially some of the fantastic Victorian villas. One of my clients has recently finished converting this rather lovely early Gothic Revival property….
Formby, parts of Crosby and Waterloo nr the coast at burbo bank, woolton village. I’m from Bootle which is not so nice but these are are the places I’d go.

You live on the Wirral, not in it. It is a peninsula, you can't live in it.
Plenty of scousers come over to what they refer to as the dark side. I have lived on the Wirral all my life, wouldn't live anywhere else.
Out of interest, it is the only peninsula in the world with three different named stretches of water, the Mersey, the Dee and the Irish Sea.

Stay in the South end - woolton, childwall, Augburth. It's about 20 mins drive to 20 and multiple buses and trains etc.
I wouldn't to anywhere near the north end, it's miles from anywhere and the people are slightly different ( bit weird ).
How much are you looking to spend ? Are you planning on buying ?
I'd avoid smithdown as it's just students and any areas close to the city centre are pretty tough.
Sefton park, Calderstones or the Hope St, Blackburn place, Falkner square area
Decent house in the better area of Formby is going to cost you half a million

Thank you very much everyone for your help. The fact that many recommendations were seconded is very reassuring.
I am not moving there, and budget considerations are open as I am writing a project for a website and an app for moving within the UK at low-cost, and need a page presenting each of a short dozen of emblematic cities across the UK. Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, York, Bath, Canterbury, London of course, Belfast are the provisional list. I may change a couple, or add a couple. But the only one I can do all by myself is Canterbury...
The internet comes up Trump for some, but whilst thee was a few things interesting the accommodation bit on Liverpool was rather shit (or it’s my google-fu that was).
Thank you again.

As an aside, there was quite an interesting series on the BBC called A House Through Time, the history of a single house in Liverpool over about 150 years. From being a wealthy merchant’s house, then a run down boarding house and up again, a well to do family’s inner city dwelling.

Anfield ,home dressing room should do it

If it low cost or budget you are after then it's not the South you're after. It really needs to be central or north Liverpool.
A 3 bed terrace house in say Anfield is around 80k ( North ).
A 3 bed terrace in Augburth is around 220k ( South ).
Woolton is 250k for a 2 bed terrace.
I've lived in Liverpool all my life and personally would only live in the South as it's much much nicer and away from any bother, but like everything it costs a fair bit more to live there.
Don’t forget to add Leeds to your lust Marc, apparently it’s the country’s third largest city!
Friends of mine moved from London to Formby. They don't ever shut up about how good it is.
Formby and Crosby aren't in Liverpool.
Formby however is absolutely spot on. It's a no brainer to buy a 6 bed house there on the beach rather than a 3 bed dump in London for 1.5million
I’m a Manc that has now lived in Crosby for the past 15 years and love it. Up the road from the beach and country park. Only 20 mins from the city centre and near the motorway networks to get around the whole of the NW. also have Lunt Flatlands up the road. The only downside is having to travel a bit to get to see God’s Own Football Team for the match. Also the stick I am getting from red scousers who appear to think they have already taken our title. Still a long way to go.....
For an Idea of the cheaper properties in parts of the North have a look at an Instagram account we run for one of our customers.

Stockbridge Village - with a name like that, what's not to like.
What a funny world it is. The Formby I know is a small-minded and snobbish place and I made for London like a bullet from a gun. I miss the pinewoods and the dunes but not the people. Emelyn Hughes did live round the corner from us though, and I have a story about Kenny Dalgleish’s daughter; but maybe not for the G&D..

It totally depends on the type of area you are looking for. I lived there for 4 years, working as a reporter for the local radio station, so I got round the whole city a lot.
Is this for someone young, free and single?
A "young professional" eg. 28-35ish who still wants a night out but wants parks/restaurants/a bit of peace nearby?
A young family?
A family with older kids?
Someone older?
I could probably help with any of those really, but what sort of life is this person likely to want?
There are plenty of parts you wouldn't want to live...that really IS easy...
Croxteth, Toxteth, Anfield, Everton, Prescott, Huyton, Rainhill, Speke, Halewood, Netherly, Vauxhall, Kirkdale, Walton, Norris Green, Bootle, Kirby, West Derby.
Toby
Thank you Toby. If I was looking for myself I would love a list like yours, with the places to avoid.
But for its intended use I’d rather avoid doing a Boris and alienate all the people living there against using that company for moving away from their slum homes.

That’s where my wife’s from and I can confirm it’s rough as f**k
I can’t possibly comment on the North/South Liverpool thing because I’m ‘a wool’ being from St Helens. However there are some nicer places on the outskirts of Liverpool, for example Ormskirk, Rainhill, Rainford & Eccleston are all within commuting distance of central Liverpool
Having spent all of my life in North Liverpool (Walton) and South Sefton (Bootle), if I hadn’t moved to Malta at the start of the year, we would have looked to either the South of the city (Calderstones/Allerton/Aigburth), other parts of Sefton (Crosby/Lydiate) or West Lancs (Ormskirk/Aughton) within the next couple of years. I know a couple of people who have moved to Formby who decided the people weren’t for them so moved out again although it is a lovely place and I also know people who have settled there.
Everywhere has its good and bad parts, we lived in a nice quiet part of Bootle (yes it did exist) but a couple of miles either way wasn’t great and coming back from a fortnights holiday to hear about 4 shootings within 2-3 miles of where we lived made accepting the job offer in Malta a lot easier.

Lunt sits between Ince Blundell and Maghull/Lydiate. A nice area, out of the way with a small residential area and few farmhouses dotted around. I've got a mate who owns a couple of houses there. Just down the road from Sefton Village.

Ah ok sorry. To be honest I haven't heard it called flatlands either but just assumed it was a nickname used locally based on it being a flat area?

Your missing out then. It’s a lovely place and really interesting. Try googling Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve. We call it the flatlands possibly because it was flooded to make the reserve. There are a few forests there, wetlands, bird sanctuaries, they are excavating a fort / village, and it all runs alongside the River Alt. Try a visit. Fantastic place. I walk the dogs there and do a six mile circuit on the days when I am not on the beach or heading towards Hightown.
Friends, has anyone enjoyed similar edubirdie.com/custom-term-papers services? I urgently need help in solving a complex mathematical problem. Should I contact such a service?
Thornton. The same road near the bypass where the guy has been building that huge house for the last 5 years.
