    Seiko - newbie

Hi - sorry for this in advance - I like the Seiko SRP779k1 and am looking to buy one - but can anyone tell a seiko novice what the difference between Prospex, Padi are - and what is the Turtle reference? Thanks for anyone patient enough to explain! Then I cam make my decision

Prospex are seiko's more rugged line of watches for use when out in the field such as diving, hiking etc. They usually have screw down crowns, often ISO certified divers and can really take a beating. They are mid tier in the seiko lineup, usually priced between 500 and 1000 euros.

PADI is a subset of this, they are watches designed in collaboration with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). They are mostly variations of Proxpex watches, usually with a pepsi style bezel insert.

Prospex = Professional Specification. It's nothing new, they aren't the new mid-range of watches, just a new logo to slap on the dial of the tool watches (divers and aviators, mainly).

i.e. the BFK 200m kinetic diver has been around for 6 years or so and last year they started putting an "X" on the dial. It's the same watch.

Turtle is the case shape, a throwback to the original 1969 "6309" diver which collectors nicknamed Turtle due to the exaggerated cushion case.

    Good choice,

Rugged, classic, nice heritage and 'safe' or 'discreet' in dangerous areas.
I love the Pepsi dial, never liked the PADI association (I am CMAS qualified), so yours is a perfect combination.
The black dial is always more versatile and I tend to get bored of blue dialed watches very (very) fast.
Have fun and show us a pictuire when you get it.

    Ciao,
    Serge

It may be worth checking out website Hot UK Deals for any Seiko deals - where as an example the SRP775K1 was on sale at just under £180 at H Samuel.
