Did you have the throttle bodies on your R400 duratec Simon?
My dad always wanted one of these when I was younger. We went to loads of shows looking at them
I have a duratec R500 currently, 263 bhp, roller barrell tbs ,dry sump, lsd etc. Now being corner weighted and mapping done byLuke Stevens in Newmarket.
Had nine Caterham's so far, keep coming back to them via other toys...

I've never owned one but used a press R300 a few times in both summer and winter and on-track, and spent 10 days in France in it doing almost 2000 miles. My passenger and I are both tall and I couldn't get my left foot under the clutch so spent all that time with it hovering over the pedal - not very comfortable. We stayed in Mont St Michel and only when I was unpacking stuff in the hotel room at the top did I remember I'd left the steering wheel on the bonnet of the car! It was still there when I hot footed it down, that could have been an interesting one to sort. We went to the first Classic Le Mans (2002?) and snuck out to the inside of the Esses in the middle of the night, standing about a metre from where Bobby Rahal was hitting the apex in his 917 was magnificent. We took the car into the centre of Paris where it really wasn't happy. The carbs didn't like spluttering around at low revs so you had to give it a bit of throttle on the clear bits. At the motor show the next day I met someone who'd heard us from his office in the middle of the city and dashed over to the window to see us go below him! An amazing car and a fantastic trip, even if it took a while for my left leg to return to normal shape.
"A man of little significance"
Great story and photos. Yes you'd be pretty scuppered without the wheel!
I'm surprised it was taken as a souvenir.
They eventually developed the SV version for "larger" owners
That must have been one of the original R300s with those split rim Mike Barnby wheels but think it would probably have been on throttle bodies. None of them particularly like city driving especially traffic, they just want to go. Cool plate to.
Yes, it's an original JPE, number 37 I think it was. Sadly I sold it a few years ago to get an AC Cobra (Real one). The 7 was originally made for Hans Rausing, the guy behind Tetra Pak and even though it was the fastest accelerating car of all time, he then spent about £50k having it Turbo charged. It was an animal when I bought it and eventually turned it back to a standard JPE, finding a lot of its original parts along the way.
It was a great car, and now resides in the South of France.
Absolutely stunning, any more photos at all..... and good on you for putting it back to JPE standard spec.
Mr Tetra Pak had a lot to answer for, but then with all his money I suppose he can afford to do what he wants!
Edited to add, was the JPE your favourite 7

Funny enough, it wasn't my favourite 7. I liked my modded HPC more and also my BDR, which I stupidly sold recently! The photo below was when I displayed the car at Earls Court on the 7 Club stand

And here's my BDR Cosworth. Great car and sold it too cheaply!

That's interesting....Can I ask why? Would love a drive in a JPE.
For me the JPE was probably the most significant 7 out of all of them wasn't it, but then I suppose it was designed for one thing, to go and stop quicker than anything else at the time, too track focused maybe?
Brilliant photo and love the reg no - do you still have a 7?
I sold mine in September and haven't missed it through the winter as I generally never used to drive mine through the colder months but now Spring is on its way, I'm starting to miss the excitement of cleaning her and prepping her for the first blat of the year. Happy days!
My oh my, that BDR!!
I can't quite put my finger on it but I never really felly in love with it. Some drives were epic, some painful. It was peaky and a one trick pony I suppose. Fantastic on the track or an early morning blat but not fun in traffic, hot weather or bumpy roads; it was just an unforgiving car.
I am currently 7less but always keep my eyes open for one and will have another at some point. For me, the nicest 7s are not necessarily the fastest. The BDR wasn't fast but drove really nicely in an old school way.
Morning all.
Mine needs new tyres. In the size I need - 195 45 r15 - there doesn't seem to be too much choice. I definitely need 45 profile to go under the swing-stays. Are Toyo T1R my realistic best option?
Thanks

I remember Dunsfold Dave....met him on a Wightblat years ago.
Yep!

God it's a small world!
Wow, it really is a small world, I remember you now Neill. Hope you are well too.
Indeed, Richard was a one off, such a shame he left us too soon.
I do like a spirited drive. I'm on CR500's at the moment but they are expensive and likely to be discontinued. My issue is profile. They need to be 45...

Due to flat floor setup?
Can get 888's but they're 50 profile (which probably doesn't help!).
Rain sport 3?

Rain Sport 3 is another option. Not sure how grippy they would be.
50 profile with the right shoulder might work but even the Avons rub a little on the wing-stays...

First proper blat of the year. MOT passed and getting 13s fitted and corner weighted next week at Boss Racing.
Opinions - change the rear wing protectors and cycle wings to carbon? Recently fitted lowered, smaller black headlights

Final service tasks completed today - new tyres fitted and I topped up the gearbox oil. Ready for a first blat tomorrow.

Our old 'Westy' 1760 x-flow
My only car for a while (many years ago) and 'commuted' from Chigwell to Yateley through the winter to visit my girlfriend (now wife) - many funny looks and a few smiles/waves on the M25 late on Sunday nights, roof off and warm clothing on!
We had a week away in it too as I recall
Currently pondering a Caterham, Exige etc!
Cheers
