Classic Cars what do you have

    Hi Guys

I own a TR6 that I adore it was purchased last October, I have owned a couple of classics ie a Midget and a Spitfire over the years.

Who on here has owned and still has some nice classics. Some nice pictures of the interior engine bay etc would be nice for all the car fans on here. It’s not a gratuitous thread for me to post pictures of my TR6 so I won’t, just a genuine request to see some nice new, old or rare cars.

Currently got a 1985 BMW 323i, but previously have had MG BGT, MG BGT V8, TR6, BMW 635CSI, x3 Mk2 Golf GTI 16V.

Wouldn’t mind another TR6 (YYH 981H where are you?) but this will do for now:

Love the TR6, was looking to buy one last year before something else came up.

I have a 1967 Lotus Elan S3 FHC, and share (with my father in law) a 1964 AC Cobra FIA and a 1967 Austin Mini Cooper S Mk1. Additionally he also has a 1956 AC Ace Bristol and a Sunbeam Tiger Mk2. Technically my '07 Audi RS4 is a bit of a relic now too.

Just shut down my old server so need to figure out somewhere new to upload the photos.

I went through a Mercedes phase a few years ago and after buying new, current models was left rather dissatisfied so i went classic and bought a nice 230ce pillarless coupe which was built when MB built cars made to last.
Unfortunately it only lasted 35 years when it succumbed to rot (which they all do) and it was sold to someone new with fresh eyes and an open wallet...

I had a few good years with it though and it was fabulous to drive: wind all the windows down, snick it into `D`, left limb resting on the centre armrest i`d pilot this fabulous old girl around the highways of Hampshire with just a thumb and forefinger on`t wheel wafting around in majestic elegance!

In an age where every motor manufacturer seems to think we all need hard, jarring `sports` suspension, plasticky interiors and inert, characterless driving experiences this Merc was a joy with it`s lazy and torquey automatic motor, compliant, softly-sprung suspension and large, cosseting seats chairs.

    ...i`d have another..

Check our CCA and Anglia Car Auctions. I have seen several nice ones over the last couple of years and seem not to have gone silly, price wise, just yet.

Still have my very first car, MGB Roadster, registered in 1971, bought by me in 1990 and this year had an engine rebuild. Great little car but hardly used!

Ridiculous service intervals, small petrol tank, noisy, hard ride.

But having said all that, what a great car!

Some lovely cars on this thread.

Last year I bought a rare (in more ways than one) car, one that had a nostalgic appeal to me.

A 1982 Volvo 343gl with a genuine 4k miles. Small cars are white goods now. More reliable, fuel efficient, safe etc etc but not the same character.

    I love that interior colour!

My auntie had a Volvo 343GL new. It was an auto box but only had 1 gear. A strange thing to drive I seem to remember.
My dad had a Volvo 262C in 1979. That was a rare car even back then. A coupe with Silver body and a black vinyl roof.
Designed by Bertone but looked like a Volvo of the era with a chopped roof.

I also had a few Volvo's myself. 122s with twin su's unfortunately I couldn't afford to have the underside rust sorted at the time. Then a 144. I just remember that was burgundy with black cloth. The last Volvo I owned was a 244GLE in white with tan leather and a 3 speed auto.

My other classic was and still is one of my all time favourite cars. A BMW E24 628 csi. Mine was red with green cloth Recaro trim. I loved that car and its the only car I haven't lost any money on. Had it for 3 years and sold it for same as I had paid for it.

Sorry no pictures of any of the cars but they did all happen.

I think I would buy another E24 probably a 635 if I had a garage to put it in.

It’s funny, but of all the cars in this thread (including the Land Rover, even though I’m actively looking for a shed of a IIa as a long term restoration project) this Volvo moved me the most. Cars these days are just sh*t and it’s cRs like this that make me feel that the most.

    My Volvo ES,
Well no longer mine as such but good memories of regular journeys between Yorkshire and Henley.

1977 T2 - Had it about 8 years now I guess, needed some work when we first got it but just routine maintenance now, its a fun weekend load carrier, bikes and portable BBQ etc, as a practical camper, not so much fun but doable if the weather is nice for a weekend, noisy, slow, woefully fuel inefficient but the wife and kids love it and won't let me swap it for a 924 Turbo.
    Cheers..

That's awesome Jason and your photo catchs the essence of it perfectly. I could be tempted by a camper but the mrs would be reluctant.

Yes, Ive just been looking at some past photo rolls and its been a lot of fun, especially for the kids, they have never known life without it, I can bet in the years ahead they won't remember what car we have but they won't forget 'Campo'.

Old School Muscle. Love it. As for the colour it's very similar to Porsche Viper Green.

    What motor does it run?

    The colour was called Sub-Lime.

That’s a beauty! Always loved the shapes of the Dodge muscle cars. Stunning colour as well, they weren’t meant for shy retiring types.

I always wanted a Challenger loved the one in the movie Vanishing Point. Mopar really did have some funky colors on the old muscle cars you don't see a lot of that sublime color here but you do see a lot of Plum Crazy.

The last few years Jeep has been using quite a few of those crazy colors on the Wranglers.

My 914 a few years ago on the first-ever trip after the engine rebuild. A pump near the workshop. One of the last non-self service pumps in the area!
