    Scrapping a Car

    Hi everyone

I have been tasked with getting rid of my Dad's 21 year old Ford Fiesta which is undriveable.

What is the proceedure please, do scrapyards pay or do you pay them these days?

    Any advice greatfully received.

It's been a couple of years, but when my BIL scrapped his Zafira a while back he got money for it (not a lot, admittedly - £100 IIRC) because he drove it in. If they'd had to send the truck out to collect it, it would have ended up costing him. Worth a call to the local scrappies.

    Cheers,

    Plug

You shouldn’t have to pay - you’ll get a little bit of cash for it. Make sure it goes to a proper recycler though. These people are near to you I think and they’ll collect. Give them a call and see what they say.http://www.hillmetalrecycling.co.uk/...n-depollution/

My local is paying £600 a ton just now for light steel collected in their skip, so you should get a couple hundred quid (they’ll factor in their upside of non-ferrous content minus disposal charges for tyres etc.)

I just used www.cartakeback.com as they were offering £200 vs. £100 for the other side's. (found from an online Guardian article about how to scrap your car) - the process was straightforward, and although mine was a runner, I was able to get a lorry sent out (the breakers who took it are based 60+ miles from me)

We use Redcorn. They pay a decent price and pick it up on a low-loader.. You can check the price on their website.

Grind off engine number, remove vin plate & plates and park it up at Sainsburys.

I’ve used Charles Trent for the last two cars I’ve scrapped:

    https://sellyourcarorvan.trents.co.uk/

They offered me the best prices for the two roadworthy cars I’ve scrapped.

I just tried them for a laugh. They offered £21 if delivered, £1 if they had to collect. For info one of the links above offered >£500 and trade value is £1100.

My local fire station takes scrap cars to practice their road accident skills on (don’t pay anything though)
