What have you flipped and which do you wish you kept?

Just curious how many people have sold on and how often was this regretted. Below are all ive flipped since getting interested in watches.
Nothing high end and a definite trend towards seikos and divers!

I regret flipping the orange sumo, that was super comfortable and a real beauty. difficult to get now.
The maranaz, despite its size was just a lovely watch, heaps of style and character, defo would take that one back if i could.
The black monster was my first auto so would probably like to have held onto that too.

I really enjoyed the CW C11, until they had their first big sale and cut the price by 50%. I was disgusted they would devalue their brand like that so eventually flipped it and decided not to buy from them again.
Still was a great watch though, beautiful face, crystal was completely invisible.

The rest were itches that needed scratching but just didnt hit the spot.

    Black Monster

    Orange Sumo

    Prometheus s80

    Skx007 black bay mod

    Maranaz Lanyan (brass)

    CW C11

    Seiko Monster V2 Blue (SRP055)

    Seiko CESAR

    Obris Morgan Explorer
Only kept it for 3 days. No picture

Sorry - I'm one of those sad people who has kept all the watches I've ever owned - even the Timex that was given to me when at infant school.

Even ones that I wish I hadn't bought - such as one from Olympus Cameras - nice display back, plenty of sub-dials - nut hands that continuously fall off; or the YES watch, single hand, LCD display what adjusts for sunrise and sunset and multiple time zones - but as ugly as sin and totally tacky.

However, tastes change -and I might start wearing them again.....

I was taking "What have you flipped and which do you wish you had kept?" as two separate questions, not as "What that you've flipped do you wish you had kept?"

Rolex-wise, 5513 Sub, 1655 Explorer (McQueen), 16510 GMT, JLC Gran Sport Reverso. That's just a few of mine over the years, there were others, Rolex Fat lady/Omega Speedy/Tudor Prince (Homeplate)..........if I had them all now I would be quite well off! Hindsight says though, all the other people like me would have been too.
This hobby has cost me dearly over the years, but it's been fun, I know my limitations & I wouldn't have changed it, lest I has a crystal ball, but then having one would change what had come before, if you see what I mean.
Having said all that, I am really loving my small collection now, & probably the happiest watch-wise I've ever been, so all for the best I think. You've gotta climb the mountain to see the other side.

Mid-70s steel Omega C- cased Constellation with the correct original bracelet........116200 Rolex Datejust........Omega Aqua Terra original cal 2500 with blue dial.

These are watches I wish I still owned. In 2014 I sold a 16610 Rolex Sub, never missed the watch but financially I should’ve kept it. Not quite the same as wishing I still owned it.

What have you flipped and which do you wish you kept?

Something in the region of 50 watches have come and gone over the last 14 years, and as my collection has evolved I’ve regretted very few of the watches I’ve sold.

The one that I miss the most is my PAM00156, a genuinely rare watch and a lovely one too (here’s a gratuitous photo)

however selling it allowed me to buy my DSSD, so I can’t say I actually regret it.

What this thread has forced me to confront is that I may be in the process of making a mistake - I have a watch that I am currently selling in Sales Corner and I’ve realised that I am likely to regret it. So much so that I am now actively considering withdrawing it.

Those who know me here will not be surprised to know that I’m talking about my Breitling Avenger Skyland...

Zenith El Primero 'Big Blue' in mint condition, Heuer Camaro 30, also mint and a Breitling Top Time 2002 reverse panda (Sean Connery and Sid James both wore one, what more could you want!) are the only three watches I wish I still had but it was a case of 'needs must' at the time so don't regret it.

Watch fora is full of wailing WIS's who bemoan the day they flipped a watch, they will regret it till the day they die.

So learn from their experience and do what I do, that is never ever flip, just hang on to it because even if you sell something you don't like, it is sods law that in weeks to come, you will wonder why you did it.

Simple strategy is to suss out what you like and hold back for a month to make sure you really want it and then buy it and keep it.

Another advantage is that the self appointed police in the Bear Pit can never accuse you of profiteering if you don't sell.

These Speedmasters primarily, especially the ‘Ed White’. This was an all-original full set in superb condition; I doubt I will find one like it again, and if I do it will be out of my reach:

This 1603 datejust, although I’ve since gained a 16220 that in some ways makes up for it.

Finally this 16710 GMT. This one had the stick dial, before stick dials were even a thing!

In the early 2000's I had gotten my fathers broken Speedy which he had bought in the early 70's (with metal Omega logo). When I got it it had a 861 movement, but I don't know if it came like that originally or was fitted during a service.
One time the spring bars let go and it fell unto a wooden staircase and internals were damaged. We got it repaired.
Another time I had a bicycle crash and landed on the watch and internals broke again.
I got a repair quote, it was around 1200 euro at that time.
I was 17 and had no money to get it fixed and my father didn't want to repair it once more, as he had a newer Speedy himself.
So, I sold it on eBay for around 500 euro.

Afterwards I found out that people would want to pay up to 3000eur for a broken 'applied logo' watch, and that Speedy prices were rising quicker than inflation.
In the years hence I've tried to contact the buyer to buy it back, but have never been able to get in touch with him.
I should just have kept it.

Mild irritance for pieces that have sky-rocketed in value (flat-4 LV, zenith Daytona, etc..) but only real regrets are a black dial pie-pan constellation and a GO navigator.

Off the top of my head I have flipped

    2 x Planet Ocean
    4 x Seamaster
    1 x Aqua Terra
    1 x Sub C Date
    1 x Sub C ND
    1 x Sub Hulk
    1 x DSSD
    1 x Explorer
    1 x Explorer II
    1 x Daytona
    1 x PAM 372

Quite sad looking at that - though a fair chunk of that went into a consolidation of 2 x Pateks and a Ceramic Daytona so more happier - too many Rolex felt the same

My main regret is letting go of the Hulk

If sell stuff it's because I no longer want it, no good crying about it afterwards.

I have more regrets about stuff I should have bought and didn't.
    Cheers,

Flipped a Sea Dweller 16600 that I wish I’d kept.

Also sold a blue faced Nautilus a few years ago for well under half what they seem to be worth now.

5512 sub traded for a Panerai on sc that I then sold a week later - idiot and a 5513 fully box papers etc from 1978 that I sold on a whim through sc for £4k - idiot again. Lots more too all Rolex sports.

So, so many, but a few "lowlights"...

Minty Seiko blue Pogue ( ex Tom Hickman )
    Minty Seiko 6309 7040 ( Ex J11JDA of this very forum )
    Seiko SBBN013 Darth Tuna
    Omega Seamaster Bond auto
    Breitling Avenger Seawolf Ti

What makes the pain even worse is that most of these I bought for a song in mint condition; for example the Omega was 700 quid in 2013!

I've flipped alot of watches, some after just days of ownership. Some because I didn't bond, alot because funds were needed for the Next Thing.

    Ones I REALLY regret:

    1) Both 16570 Explorer IIs. Partly because they were great, partly because they are now worth a grand more than they were when I had them!
    2) Speedy Sapphire Sandwich. Miss staring at the movement...
    3) All the Breitlings I've had, except the Aerospace Rep Minutes (too little and light). Most of all, a coral dial Colt Superocean.
    4) An orange-dialled Kronos diver, with a 2824 inside. Something about the proportions and the dial really worked. Never seen another.
    5) Chris Ward Trident Pro 38mm, with white dial and dark green bezel. Just a lovely combo, and a great size.

Now that I don't have a single watch which is definitely dressy, every so often I do finding myself wishing I still had this one.

Rolex Explorer and GMT 2, both 2003 models, but that is mainly as the prices have shot up so much. Ditto 2 Dreadnoughts.

Breitling B-1, black dial, as I did make use of most of the functions

My major regret is a Schauer SportStop, black dial, as never found one since. The system is flawed but it was a comfortable watch that kept good time.
