I’m looking forward to it, I’ll even have company on the train! Mrs Walker has relatives in Manchester area and she’s meeting up with them for lunch/afternoon.......this means I get ‘escorted’ home if Mr Beer gets the better of me

Only downside for me is missing the Trinity v Hull KR match, I don’t miss many home games but I’ll miss this one.

Reminders sent via PM. Any questions drop me a text.

And don't forget to bring stuff for our customary 'flea market' of useless things to sell for the fundraiser. I've got a framed photograph of Sarky that I'm going to ask Burnsey to sign on the day.

You’ve just got to let Unclealec pull you off after the event.

    Wait...that was the Lancashire GTG!

Given that I’m still in work at this time it’s a definite no for me, gutted but I’m sure you’ll all have a great time.

I’m going to be just a few mins late (I actually had to wait more than 2 mins for the tram to arrive this morning!). Feel free to start without me...

On the way home, I really shouldn’t have spent 45 mins trying to “convert”’Jehovah’s Whitnesses to the hard facts of science.

    Freezing now.

    Great afternoon chaps!

I'm hoping for a post from someone about 8am saying that they're still out partying 🤣

Great to see you all again today. Honest feedback about the new venue welcome via PM....I know it's not as intimate as the last one, but it's more secure.

Thought it was great - discrete, parking no problem and top beer (note to self, go on the train next time).

But glad you had a good time ( as always)

I think you mean Harry Tuttle's military Russian. Hopefully he will tell us about it; he was such a torrent of erudite information on so many diverse subjects that a simple bear like me had no chance of retaining it all. Great to meet you Harry, and good to meet everyone of course.

Is that the biggest aspidistra in the world?
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

It was a great pleasure to meet you all, and finally get to see the people behind the avatars. It was well worth the drive through rain, hail and standing water from Barrow. I'm already looking forward to the next GTG.

Many thanks to Kirk280 and unclealec for going to the trouble of arranging everything.

In response to the query, the tragic baby Ploprof is a WUS forum recreation of a Slava Dive watch that may have been briefly manufactured sometime in the 70s or 80s. No one's really certain about the original watch as you can see from the links below.

For some background about the Slava see post #6 here.

For the story of its recreation as a WUS project see here.

As you can read it had as tortuous a birth as some of Eddie's watches appear to. Rather than a PloProf (as the author of the first link points out) it has a strong resemblance to a vintage Zodiac Sea Wolf but then I think that a lot of seventies dive watches have a similar design.

I came across it by chance on Ebay and I'm always a sucker for a black dial and orange highlights. It has a fair amount going for it in my opinion: a domed perspex crystal, Vostock's patented floppy screw in crown (which is the on of the easiest I've ever used) and a gilt bezel. The case is a serious chunk of steel and it's a great opportunity to wear a watch on a shark mesh. And best of all it was very little outlay which allows me to wear it with more abandon than some of my other watches.

From my perspective what's not to like?

    Of course YMMV...

Yesterday's GTG clashed with another of my major passions; as a diehard Wakefield Trinity fan I was disappointed to miss a home game.....until I saw the score. Trinity 6 Hull KR 10...........that didn`t please me but it would've pleased me even less had I been there!

Looks like I made the right choice!

I might be banned from attending...

Fantastic do though, the venue was absolutely top drawer, kudos to Kirk! (It was a PITA to find but that's my fault, I should have made sure my phone was charged!)

Did anyone take those lovely Camouflage NATO straps I left in the charity pile?

I picked them up, sadly there were no takers for them! I can either post them back to you, or put them on SC for the fundraiser, or keep them for the next GTG, as you prefer.

I'm hardly surprised Kirk, they were horrific. 😁😁

Good fun for someone with a plain looking Seiko 5 or something though, to jazz it up a bit. 😉

If you can find them a home then thats fine with me. Ive got some good stuff for next time but like I said i was on the fence whether i would even make it after the arsing about Northern Fail did with the trains.

Although I wasn't there in person, it's gratifying to know that I was remembered. Thanks a lot lads.

I think I might frame that to remind me of Burnsey. Speaking of which, nice new watch he’s sporting since the GTG....

Finally on SC, sorry for the delay.

Little reminder...if you took anything from the GTG that was donated the fundraiser needs a tickle.

(Being late is forgiven....I can’t talk!)
