What watch to wear on a date?

    Asking for a friend

I found this article amusing and surprising...

    https://www.montredo.com/en/watch-ma...ear-on-a-date/

Seems that the ladies aren't as impressed by the Submariner and the Speedmaster as we are!

Interesting article. I would say that I don't think anyone is as impressed by watches as we are! The conclusion that large watches aren't liked by the ladies is certainly borne out by my elegant and sophisticated girlfriend. I use those adjectives because she is very stylish and always looks $1m so I feel justified in valuing her opinion regarding clothes and accessories. I tried a DJ41 on recently with her and she said 'the watch is wearing you'. I tried a 36mm and she said 'perfect size. Now YOU are wearing the watch'.

Wear one that’s magnetized - it wouldn’t do to turn up late.

Does an article like that even need to be written? Isn’t it obvious that if you actually think that’s important compared to cleaning your nails, flossing your teeth, dressing well but not ‘quirky’ and not starting every sentence with “ I ” then you are probably very much still single.

Reminds me of people who identify themselves by the car they drive or who’s opening conversation socially is “so what do you drive?”. Desperately sad.

I'm surprised that a Rolex, or 3 for better than 50% approval. You hear all sorts of comments with people jumping to conclusions about owners of X brand. So the fact 50% plus of women would even give a F is surprising, never mind the fact it could be a positive.

I guess which country you carried out the survey would have a huge impact on results too.
It's just a matter of time...

Haven’t the ones that look closest to today’s crap fashion watches done best?

Poor Reverso, I hope they do become unpopular, I’ve always wanted one!

+1..... agree 100%. Bitten nails always annoyed me too, it’s a habit I detest in adults and it looks bad. Likewise, nails that need cutting look bad too, especially when not clean. If you work with your hands and get them dirty it’s difficult to get them squeaky clean, but you can tell at a glance when someone’s not tried.

As for the watch /date thing, a nice elegent vintage watch would be my choice. Big divers and chronographs can give out a negative ‘wannabee’ message.......my wife hates them!

There are a lot of people in the world.

If someone is bothered enough by what watch you are wearing to find you worthy of rejection or further time, solely on that basis, it’s pretty safe to assume you won’t have much of relationship with them... or want one...

One should only wear a watch on a first date........ if you can trust yourself not to look at it.

To even glance at ones timepiece inappropriately can be an inexcusable faux pas.

"Sorry, am I boring you?" she quipped.

    Or;

"Have you some one else lined up for later?!" she demanded.

Seems most people get complemented by women if they have a colourful watch on like an orange seiko monster.
There is a thread on WUS on it.

I've been known to use that as an opener... but I am socially inept and boring car-nerd!..... I'll get me coat! :-)

As for what watch I wear on a first date.... I normally opt for a Seiko.

Have been wearing the Seiko New Dawn grey/orange turtle - 25 yo daughter didn't think it was my style, thought it was something a teenage boy would wear!
Just said, "women, no idea, it's a man thing"
Can understand the Nomos winning - pretty sure CW watches are often bought by the girlfriend as a present

I would like to see the questions that they actually asked in that survey.

I have been in the presence of women that at the first meeting have had whole converstaions with my rolex which is Ok because some men have conversations with t**s - not me of course. All good fun and part of the game.

I did once let my eyes and mind wander at dinner and when she boldly asked me what I was staring at I countered with "I was trying to figure out whether your diamond (pendant) was a river white or an E - it so difficult against such wonderfully tanned skin"

I have to say that I dont it really matters i would have thought that presentation and smell would be more important :-)

I always found that cartier esp a Santos or Tank was always commented on positively. Chronos and divers prob do look the same but I'll bet those same women could spot a Mulberry,Chanel or Hermes bag (any variant) and tell you the price and age.

I find a pocket watch irresistible....especially when twinned with a tweed waistcoat plus fours and fedora hat ......
