    and they were...

Interesting to see how they compare in price to the Comex's advertised on Watchfinder. I imagine the provenance of the wathces on the antiques roadshow may make them more valuable?

Just saw that, a lovely looking pair of watches that seemed to be in pretty good nick.

I've been on the lookout for a 70s 5512/3 or a 1680 for a while now, and I thought the price he suggested for a non Comex version of the non marked dial (a 5514?) was a little light, if anything, considering the ones I've been looking at.

I found it interesting , the sub with "comex " on the dial was twice the price of a "std dial" but " rolex comex" engraved on the rear case back, wonder how common the engraved version is over the written dial version ? clearly both genuine subs , same owner , box papers etc

Notice the 5513 had a HEV in the case side ?. I am out of date with prices but suspect the expert was a little light with valuations.

    That makes it a 5514, doesn't it?

The £20k for the 5513/4 was laughable. I was thinking more like £50k+ given it provenance and rarity.

Actually given its been on ARS, I could see it easily fetch over £70k in auction.

Ah, didn't know that! Without pinning you down on specific numbers, do you agree with the consensus here (and on another forum) that the prices quoted were on the soft side?

Most of the sat divers and ex divers I met when I worked offshore were well aware of the value of Comex Rolex watches.

Agreed, can’t be many not aware that they are valuable, current prices might come as a shock though, especially if they sold up a few years ago...

Remember....this is a television show, carefully produced and edited. Don’t assume the guy was really unaware of the value : a few minutes on the net would have given a fair idea.
It’s entertainment. They need the illusion of surprise and drama...such as it is!
I enjoy it;but where do they find all those hot, cloudless , days?

    Of course you do!
I'd love to see you turn up on an episode.

'Well Mr. Milton, this is a VERY rare watch. Thanks for bringing it along'

'Marvellous, and what about these ones?'

*pulls out suitcase full of other, rare watches.

I'd probably watch that episode, as I've dutifully managed to avoid all the others.
