Most of the choices so far are top notch, quite impossible for me to choose only three.

I like the theme. I’ll put in a word for another (Greater) Manchester based comedy ‘Ideal’. Ran a long time but without gaining massive audiences. I thought it was great.

Could quite easily make this a top ten, but here goes

    Fawlty Towers
    Only Fools
    Dad’s Army

And just outside the top three - Porridge

Well if nothing else, this thread shows that they don’t make comedy shows like they used to.

Quite agree - love Toast, The Inbetweeners, Dads Army, in fact most listed on this thread, love me some comedy. Might add Nighty Night too, don’t think that’s been mentioned yet.
Sadly I can’t include ‘only fools and horses’ - I loved it in the day, but try as I might I just find it desperately unfunny whenever I try to rewatch an episode. Don’t think it’s aged well, which is odd as something like Dads Army is so much older?!

I see that although this is “all time” greats, there’s not much love for pre-colour TV shows!

    Steptoe and son

Hancock (whatever the TV series was called)

    ‘Til death is do part

    Likely lads

Spike Milligan was a very good shout, by the way. You watch some of the early stuff and you see just how innovative and influential he was.

    Men behaving badly
    The in betweeners
    Blackadder
    Gimme Gimme Gimme

But any of the others on here could feature too
