My brother has just sent me these pics. His Wife has just been given this watch by her dad. All they know is that it was bought in 1972 and the crack in the crystal is from scrapping with her uncle!
Can anyone tell me anything about this watch?
It's a reference 1500 I believe. A nice classic Rolex.
It's back.....
£460 later and Rolex have sent it back

Good job - and not overly pricey, given the nature of these things!
They left the bracelet alone entirely. Gentle buff of the case, new crystal and a couple of parts inside.
I thought it was pretty reasonable and she’s chuffed to bits

I was just thinking that the bracelet didn't look like they'd done a great job - but then l read that they'd left it alone.
It looks good, but l think that a re-brushing of the bracelet would have made the watch.
I'm not in the school of "patina" though, so each to their own. Still a lovely watch.
rolex sometimes get a bad rep for unsympathetic restoration/ referbs, but for me this is exactly how it wanted doing and by the right people. good blend of resto and new parts , I could not have lived with that damaged crystal no matter what story it told but that's me, good job

sweet!
Great job. I love watches that have a history and show a story. May that watch now create many more memories and stories.

That looks very nice - well done to the OP for giving the correct instructions to Rolex! It looks great.
Lovely and good for another 20 odd years.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Bracelet needs attention though. Pop it on a leather strap whilst you send it away!!
There are a few specialist who can see to the bracelet.
Not sure on its structural integrity - I’d give it a thorough check myself and replace the springbars at the very least (possibly clasp springbar too) if she intends to wear it, or as suggested pop it on a nice leather strap and send the bracelet off...

Classic piece! The scratch on the glass told a funny story, but not enough to warrant keeping it in there. Looks great now!
