The rebirth of the Manufacture Minerva.
I much preferred Minerva (own one as well btw.), but must admit they have a couple of nice watches.
Generally speaking though, Montblanc should stick to producing pens and keep out of watchmaking.
This looks superb. The brand seems to include all manner of watches from cheap to very expensive. Are they a decent watch brand?

I think they make some very very good watches, and everyone I’ve tried has been very well regulated!
It's just a matter of time...
I have a Heritage Chronométrie as my everyday work watch and love it - wouldn't sell it.
Having said, I wouldn't pay anything like retail for a MB and think the discount on it must have been near 50%.
I tried on one of the new 1858 Geospheres a few weeks back and I love it but, like Alan says, I'll be waiting for a major discount before I consider one.
Random pic stolen from google:
I really like some of them, especially the 1858s, though they’d be nicer smaller.
The 1858 auto looks like a fairly unabashed crack at a murph watch:

Forwhy?
Cheers folks. These are the sort of comments I expected. Looks like they are trying to improve the image and quality of their watches but have a way to go. Some nice looking watches though.
That was rhetorical, I don't care.
If they were a football team they would be one of those ones that occasionally beats a premiership pub then you never hear of them again.

Montblanc to jlc, like Tudor is to Rolex, but less cool. That’s how I see them.

Bark & Jack released a video yesterday that I haven't yet seen titled "Look out Tudor, Montblanc is coming"...
When I first got into watches for watches I thought the MB was a great looker as a dress watch.

Richemont saved Minerva, who now focuses on haute horlogerie complications and development.
Minerva had lost its significance despite being co-developers of El Primero, as they were totally eclipsed by Zenith.
They could have become another new-old brand, bought by X (think of Lip!).
Instead, they are now thriving behind the scene.
Marketing-wise, MontBlanc was much stronger in a luxury yet not over-the-top segment.
Their offer is a quality one, Minerva can be proud.

I was once a fountain pen fruitcake, I have still got 88 of the things, mainly those from the 1950s when pen making was at its peak.
I sort of lost interest about 10-12 years ago, but back then Montblanc had two major criticisms.
1. Small ink sac
2. Prone to seepage in aircraft.
They were never in the top league such as Parkers, Waterman, Sheaffer, Walh Eversharp, De La Rue, and Conway Stewart to name but a few.
The best pen ever has to be the Parker 51 which was bomb proof, held a lot of ink, never leaked and just went on for ever.
I like the world timer they do.
As I've no interest in pens, I don't worry about any perceived inappropriate product association.
I'd happily wear a BIC Speedmaster or Submariner if it was priced right!

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
I've now seen the video from Bark & Jack. Adrian talks to the head designer for Montblanc watches. His background includes design work for Panerai & Tudor (basically the new range).
He says that Montblanc sees itself as a luxury company with 3 strands; pens, leather goods & watches, and that in each case they strive to be the best they can be in terms of design, materials & innovation. There is discussion of the range & it seems very nice but I agree with an earlier poster - I wouldn't buy Rolex shoes or a Timberland watch, makers who are well known & regarded in one area should stick to that in my view - all things to all men is often a fallacy.
That said, I've got an Omega pen that I love (but secretly I think it's a Sheaffer pen in an Omega suit...)
^^ If people want to watch the video, here it is!
